CD-Charts Music : Greatest Hit...And More

Greatest Hit...And More

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Reel Big Fish

Release Date November 21, 2006
I've heard RBF said to not buy this album and I will do whatever they say, even if I didn't verify they said it, they rock. This album was not authorized by RBF but put together by their old label. I own pretty much all their album releases including their recent (as of 2008) live album titled, "Our Live Album is better..." That live album is basically a greatest hits in live format which I believe is far superior anyway to this album here and better captures RBF's energy. I highly recommend this live "greatest hits" over this album. Or, if you want a greatest hits of studio releases just go buy the original albums on Amazon used. They are cheap and you'll get all the songs which is great since there are very few RBF songs that don't belong ... Read More:

20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Toots & The Maytals

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Toots & the Maytals

Release Date August 14, 2001
What a smile-in-a-box this CD is! You can hardly help tapping your feet or bopping your head as you listen to it. I've been a fan of Toots for years, along with other reggae of that era; this CD was replacing a couple of older albums. I was expecting more from the CD. Unfortunately, I must have gotten a lemon. The sound is a little muffled, the mid-range is muddy, the highs seem compressed or clipped, and the bass is indistinct. Sounds similar in my car, and on my Klipsch (horn-tweeter) computer speakers, and on my Paradigm Monitor 7's on the "real" stereo. And the Klipsch & the Paradigm are noted for teh "brightness" of their sound! It's as if it was recorded from behind the drum set, with the monitors facing away from the microphone. Sounds ... Self Medication

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: The Slackers

Release Date April 29, 2008
I was extremely disappointed in the last slackers album, "Peculiar." I thought the departure of Mark Lynn meant the end of the Slackers and the beginning of another typical ska band, but this album is a return to pure excellence. Ska is a difficult genre to stay fresh in, because there is only so much you can do with a horns + offbeat rhythms characterizing your music. However, the Slackers have never been a typical band and they are highly capable of being admired by non-ska enthusiasts because of the way the band infuses so many different genres. This album has not forgotten it's roots, however, the sound has definitely evolved from the early Slackers formula. There was something lacking in "Peculiar," but it has made a triumphant return to this album. It ... Read More:

The Longest Barrel Ride with the Self-Titled album

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Slightly Stoopid

Release Date February 25, 2006
As you can see this cd is SUPPOSE to include the "Bonus Disk" but when I received it, it did not include it and was the original CD. I called Amazon and they said that they would send me another, I tried to explain to the guy on the phone the situation that there was a mix up and that I wanted to make sure I didn't get the same CD, I even wrote an email explaining that I did not want to get the same CD and that the sticker on the CD from Amazon said that it was "the longest barrell ride with Bonus Disk", but it was marked incorrectly. And of course as I thought I got the same fricken thing. I called up mad this time and the lady was very nice and actually understood the mix up unlike the 1st guy. She explained to me that she could send another one but not ... Read More:

Lemonade and Brownies

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Sugar Ray

Release Date April 11, 1995
I wore this album out when it came out, it just kicked azz from start to finish. It was abrasive, politically incorrect, and everything rock should be.

Then they disappeared and I hadn't heard anything about them for a few years. Next thing I know "Fly" was out and it made me through up in my mouth a little bit.

I'm sure the band made a boat load of money with Fly, etc. It sucks though, it's hard enough to find good bands as it is. Then when one of the great ones goes from kicking azz to bubble gum pop, it just sucks.

Oh well... this album is a must own, no question about it.

CD-Charts Music : Modified

Modified

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Save Ferris

Release Date October 19, 1999
Save Ferris second cd, Modified was doomed to fail. Ska music faded into oblivion by 2000 and this talented band never had a chance to shine. I like some of the tracks but I don't LOVE them to pieces. Mistaken and Let Me In are excellent break-up songs but their sound is limited. Save Ferris showed a lot of promise with their debut, It Means Everything but some things can't last. I am sorry to say this album was not golden.

Rancid

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Rancid

Release Date August 01, 2000
Rancid was at their best when doing the experimental ska and reggae of their previous album Life Won't Wait. But I believe that this album was created because of the backlash of fans who disliked them experimented and just wanted punk rock, nothing more. Yeah, way to keep your integrity, Rancid.
As for this album, there are definitely some gems, but Rancid are at their best doing ska, reggae, or fun 70's style punk rock, like in ...AOCTW or the Operation Ivy days. Only a select few songs on this record contain the Rancid spirit I've been seeing in their albums; and those are Radio Havana, Let Me Go, and It's Quite Alright, while nearly every song on Life Won't Wait and Wolves contain the "Rancid spirit". WTF is up with the vocals? Lars Frederiksen, you are NOT Iam ... Read More:

Sublime: Greatest Hits

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Sublime

Release Date December 02, 2003
For my taste this is the ultimate Sublime. It is the more polished, popular side of Sublime (Santeria, What I Got, etc.), but it covers a good bit of their discography. I'm also a big fan of 40 oz to Freedom if that helps any. I'm on my second copy of both now.

Guns of Navarone: The Best of the Skatalites

Release Date March 04, 2003
When i first heard the Skatalites I really enjoyed sitting back and listening to them. So I thought I would buy their Best songs. It's a good CD, pretty much has the same tempo throughout it.

CD-Charts Music : Good Charlotte

Good Charlotte

CD-Charts > Music > Ska
by: Good Charlotte

Release Date September 26, 2000
This is NOT emo, this is NOT punk, they never said it was either, its a blend of Pop-Punk with lyrics that portray the true life events of Benji and Joels life, father leaving them, mother raising them, being poor and growing up on the streets of DC. Unlike my chemical romance, GC act ually has a reason for some of their sadder, more meloncholly songs, they dont sing about slitting your wrists or crying to your friends, they sing about sticking up your chin, fighting through the hard times, and surviving life.
I loved this band years ago, and still today I have no hard feelings for them, although my musical tastes have evolved, but I just couldnt bear to see my childhood favorite cd get bashed by a bunch of ignorant fools.
If you can relate to being poor, fatherless, rejected ... Read More:
