...In hindsight, we now see that he was essentially beefing up his production rate in the years between Mutations and Modern Guilt to complete his contract with Geffen. However, it's with Modern Guilt that he crafted perhaps his most graceful maneuver. Commandeering Dangermouse for the rhythm section to accompany his next set of serious melodic songs was a brilliant move. Having Dangermouse on board allowed Beck to challenge notions of loosing relevance in modern times, but also to set the stage for an awesomely anti-climactic farewell to his label, because Dangermouse applies a decidedly more meek and much different overall approach than the Dust Brothers, although equally sample driven and not dominated by the synthesizer sound of Midnight ... While some reviews may suggest that this album didn't quite live up to Dar's previous efforts, I have to say, I LOVE this album. It hasn't left my cd player since I finally got the chance to listen to it a couple of weeks ago. Every track seems to have some ultra-clever snippet of lyrics that just draws you into the song as you wait to hear what's coming next. This, plus the catchy tempo of "It's Alright" hooked me with the first verse. My favorite track has to be "Into The Woods". How can you not love a song with lyrics that include a "windy-path, angry a@@ woman who will eat you?" The unexpected vocals by Suzanne Vega on this song was also a wonderful surprise. Dar is capable of some amazing ballads as well. Her vocals are particularly ... Read More:

Excellent CD, made me appreciate the ART of music again. Couldn't wait to see them in concert, and not only did that back up the quality of the CD, but made me love it even more. What a team!

My brother introduced me to Eva Cassidy in 1999 - I was immediately taken with her voice and her heart - she put her heart into every song that she sang. The world has truly lost a "songbird". I have almost every album that they have put out of her music, and I still tear up when I hear her pieces on the radio or tv. This newest album is no exception.

Katy Perry is another wayward female jumping on the Sex and the City "I talk about how much sex I have and therefore I am empowered as a Woman despite the repeated making of ill-advised sexual decisions" bandwagon. The songs are boring, glossy, and far too over-produced to suit Katy's fake indie image. Shopping at Fred Flare does not an indie goddess make.

If i could sing, i would want to sing like Glen H. He sings like his life depends on it... like he really means it. I like his stuff with the frames, but i love this. Not all of the songs are great on this CD, but it makes it better if you have seen the movie. The good songs on here are so good though, i would give this CD six stars if i could. "Falling Slowly" "When your mind's made up" "Leave" etc. Buy this now!

Why I used a baseball analogy for the title is beyond me. I hate baseball! Enough of that. Calexico is from my hometown, Tucson. Why they are not bigger is beyond me. Joey Burns and John Convertino, and the revolving cast of characters around them, are local legends (Giand Sand) who CD after CD create some of the most awesome music around. Part folk, part rock, part psychedelia, part "musica de la frontera" (Spanish for " music from along the border"), these guys regularly craft eclectic classics. I've got every CD, plus if you go to their web site, you can download tour CDs (my favorite is, by far, 2001's Aerocalexico).
If you like music that is folk-mariachi-punk-rock-roots-psychedelia and, well, mature and well crafted, take the plunge ... Read More:

In the wake of `American Idol' neo-talents and Radio Disney wanna-bes, I get the heebie-jeebies whenever I see some new female artist vying for my attention. My instincts warn me to take flight while my conscious brain tells me I'm bound to be disappointed by whatever two-dimensional presentation the new face has to offer. Amy McDononald's new disk offers me a panacea for my paranoia. First of all - and this is very important in this age of emotionless warblers - she writes her own material. Secondly, she knows how to write memorable melodies, and best of all, her words are genuinely meaningful. "This Is the Life" overflows with catchy riffs that support personal tales of difficult relationships, but she speaks from (and for) a perspective that includes both ... Read More:

The CD is really great. I had this CD in cassette form but I needed a cd since my cassette player quit working. If you are a Bob Seger Fan then this is a must have. It is great to listen too while working out it is mostly upbeat and keeps your energy level up.
If you buy this cd you won't regret it!

I was moved to add my voice to the other 999 reviews having just listened to disc one this morning. I am sure that I cannot add much to the proceedings so let me just say this: even the songs that I had wondered previously as to why they were included (Wild Honey Pie and Why Don't We Do It In the Road to name two)sound good in 2008. The Beatles were always several steps ahead of everyone in their music making. This album only goes to prove that in some cases, their vision extended years and years ahead of everyone. But eventually, a cat sitting down to write the one thousandth review of this cd on amazon.com catches up!
