This album reveals fully the versatility of Lyle Lovett, more than a mere country singer. The range of emotion, lyric and musicality is broad, from the softly sorrowful "I Loved You Yesterday" (one of my favorites) and the lovely "Simple Song," (absolutely beautiful -- another favorite) to the offbeat and jazzy "She's No Lady" and the feisty "She's Hot to Go." (Although the latter 2 can be seen as evidence of what some feel is Lyle Lovett's misogynic tendencies, I think they just reveal the somewhat jaded and saddened view of a man who may have had some bad luck with women!) The title piece, "Pontiac" is also moving and lyrical. What a talented songwriter he is.

this was the first cd from steve earle and it was good for the time when it came out. it has a lot of good songs all of which were singles off the album and some that were not singles. if you like rockin country with a twist of mellow this is the album for you.

I don't know If anyone that reads these has not yet heard "McMurtry" sing can understand what we talk about by his story telling. He Is brilliant and deserving of much more fame and attention than he gets.
This Cd Is one of my favorites of his. Yes the songs are all catchy filled with layers of melodic orchestration.
This would be a good CD for anyone to start listening!

"Train a' Comin'" is the type of album that, after you listen to it, you're just left going, "Wow!" and although there are some super-catchy songs (most notably "Sometimes She Forgets,") it really takes a few listens to really completely love this record, or to at least fully appreciate it.
Pretty much everyone I've played this for has the same reaction--it changed them. I've learned more about songwriting from listening to this album than from any other record in my collection, save for my Townes Van Zandt and Hank Williams albums. Speaking of Townes, I often wonder what he thought of Steve's efforts, particularly this record. Not being an expert on country music or on Johnny Cash, I must say this album is moving and very very suggestive; with simple but clever arrangements, beautiful songs and amazing vocal...
Obviously more than merely touched by age and various ailments, mr. Johnny Cash performes with great passion and suggests wisdom no young singer can convey (or even come close to conveying)...

I like it very much!

The Wreckers is a band like no other. It is a collabaration between country singer Jessica Harp and alternative pop sensation Michelle Branch. I've been a fan of Michelle Branch ever since I heard 'Goodbye to you' on 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' and 'Charmed'. I noticed this band when I went on Michelle's web-site and it redirected me to the website of said band. I was instantly awe-struck by the background music of 'Leave the Pieces' and found myself visiting the web-site just to listen to the song. Ultimate Collection is the most comprehensive anthology yet assembled for Jerry Jeff Walker, with tracks spanning the late '60s through the late '70s. "Mr. Bojangles" is here with other crowd pleasers like "Pissin' in the Wind," and "Up Against the Wall Redneck." There's the problem. Ultimate Collection focuses on his rambunctious songs and skips some of his early poetry. In addition, even though all but one of his hits from the '70s is included, none of his '80s hits are. Ultimate Collection is an imperfect survey of Jerry Jeff Walker's music, but it still will have plenty popular appeal.
