Eva Cassidy is one of those people who managed to get discovered for great talent even without the help of American Idol. And I am so glad, because her voice remained so true, clear and wonderful that she produced this and a number of other really wonderful albums before her untimely death.
She has the kind of voice that makes you realize that only a very select few of singers really (no, really) can sing. These are all covers, and just simply wonderful, unique, beautiful, fantastic music.
I listen to her albums when I want something smooth, something sweet, something unique, and something great. It's not "easy listening", or "oldies"; it's great music redone in a new and uniquely fresh way.

At 14 tracks and just over 44 minutes, this CD is a little short for an S&G compilation. Nevertheless, it could've been a cute little collection, encompassing, as the title suggests, their greatest commercial hits. It falls short of even this aspiration, however, as the familiar studio versions of several songs (including 'For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her,' 'The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)' and 'Homeward Bound') are eschewed in favor of live versions. This would be fine if this information were indicated on the track listing, but it's not, and as such it is misleading and (in the case of 'Homeward Bound', for which I was growing nostalgic and was eager to hear in its original form) disappointing. There are better collections ... Read More:

I will always remember and thank my beloved brother, Thomas John Greene, who introduced me to Eva Cassidy some years ago. This is a beautiful album of her music (they all are). How can I not think of you, Tom, as I listen to Imagine... God bless your sweet soul (and Eva's too). Miss you. Love, Eileen

I admit, I was slow to buy the newer Dylan CDs. I'm more into Jakob and the Wallflowers than his Dad, now. But, I heard just one song from this CD and started checking out the cuts--well, it's worth buying the whole thing.
Dylan's been backed by everyone, but this band is the best--even better than The Band or Grateful Dead, which I didn't think was possible. I think the reason is these guys were assembled by Dylan for Dylan.
The songs are dark and long. Dylan's voice is a throaty rasp, but he's a lot more understandable than his earlier work.
My favorites:
"Ain't Talkin" talking about a man who's gonna get gone.
"The Levee's Gonna Break" good old Southern style song with a gut ... Read More:

I think I need to listen to this a little more, but I found myself getting bored with, and skipping, tracks a little too often. Too many of them are repetitive, a al "Private Conversation", except they don't have that energy and aren't as catchy. They're also slow. Slow + repetitive = not all that interesting (unless maybe you want to meditate to it).
"Up in Indiana" at least has some energy. "South Texas Girl" is really good once you really hear it, and it's still a pretty good album, but musically it feels a little muzak-ish.

I just recently obtained copies of both this title and deja vu. For the best possible listening experience, burn both albums on one cdr (both fit on an 80 minute cd), then sit back and enjoy! I especially like to play this on my drive to work, my lunch break, and sometimes again on the drive home. I have been familiar w the So Far album for many years since i first bought it on cassette at a used record store back in the nineties. 'so far' was my initiation to their music. Now, many years later, I score a copy of their debut and the whole thing just rocks.
1. Suite: Judy Blue Eyes -great song. a little played out on fm radio. loved this cut when i heard it on 'so far' cassette
2. Marrakesh Express -my favourite cut on the album. it was supposedly ... Read More:

Janis is clever with adding a song title to every chapter of her new autobiography, ironically named "Society's Child"...which makes the cd and the book sequential, so to speak....bonus tracks on the cd, great artwork and quotes from this amazing book which I have yet toreview...
Thank you Janis!
