Yes folks, this is indeed a pivotal work by perhaps the greatest songwriter of the post war "baby-boomer" generation. Here is where the cute folky Bobby Dylan, who sang of cannon balls firing and hard rain's fallin' came to extol the virtues of being "oh so much older then" and being "younger than that now". Just listen to the older more world weary 23 year old Bob Dylan singing about La Dolce Vita and a "Motocycle Nightmare" tale. "No No No It Ain't Me Babe"....But who exactly is this troubador spinning yarns about a "Spanish Harlem Incidents" and gazing upon the "Chimes of Freedom" flashing.
Dylan was merely reaching his stride when he recorded "Another Side of Bob Dylan". Sure Highway 61, Blonde On Blonde and Blood On The Tracks ... Read More:

Neil Young-Live At Messey Hall 1971 *****
Live at Messey Hall, 1971, is one of the most intimate and enchanting performances from Neil Young on tape. Recorded when many concidered him to be at the height of his power, the time period of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush , and Harvest. Well this is the album that was supposed to be released between the last two, according to Young anyway. "David Brigg, my producer wanted to release it but I wanted Harvest out, and listening to it all these years later I can see why."
Bridging the gap between the two albums. Showing many of the songs from Harvest in their infant stages, and some in the final forms they would appear on the album. But it is this stripped down ... Read More:

When I was in grade school I had a teacher who would bring in his guitar from time to time and start strumming Gordon Lightfoot songs, such as "Early Morning Rain". When the 1970's arrived Lightfoot issued his biggest hits like "Sundown", "If You Could Read My Mind" and "Edmund Fitzgerald", but his 1960's UA collection here is what's best and most pure about his music.
One can see Gord travelling across Canada with a guitar slung around his shoulder, singing about steel rails, majestic mountains, the fleeting loves of a roving musician and so on. When I first heard the original version of "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" it sounded much folkier and less polished than the Gord's Gold reissue I was more familiar with. Yet once I heard the original version ... Read More:

My husband and I love this album! My mom has always loved John Denver and she recommended this album to me when I told her that our 'The Best of John Denver' cd was too scratched to play and my husband was sad. (I bought a replacement for that album too because I really like his older voice singing the songs). Now that I have listened to these discs many times already, I recognize it from my childhood when my mom would play it on vinyl. I loved 'Grandma's Feather Bed' and so many others. My mom asked me to buy this set for her birthday because she hasn't listened to it in years. (I think she's a little jealous). hee hee

TROUBADOUR: THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION 1964-1976 contains the absolute cream of Donovan's crop of folk-turned-psychedelic folk-rock style, quickly moving from his early days as the British Dylan to a more psychedelic sound that was perfect for the flower-power era. The folk years are only represented by four or five songs, as Donovan quickly moves into more hippie-oriented turf. Even though I've never even tried any drugs not ordered by a physician, I must say that these songs are great whether your stoned or clear-headed. The fact that Donovan, like so many other post-1964 rock artists, opposes Indonesia's trumped-up 2005 drug-smuggling conviction of a young Australian tourist makes TROUBADOUR: THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION 1964-1976 an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience. ... Any fan of KT Tunstall will love this, but what's up with the DVD menu?
This is a minor point overall but it drives me CRAZY (short trip). The content of both the CD and DVD are great with the CD being the high point. Great music. However, the audio on the DVD MENU is all chopped up, constantly starting and stopping. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? :-(
How can they put out such a nice piece of work and screw up the DVD menu?
Still, this is great music, an enjoyable DVD, and HIGHLY recommended for any KT Tunstall fan.
