This is a wonderful album. I find myself singing the songs in my head long after listening. His writing has matured along with us and the song topics just fit our generation. MUsic is beautiful and haunting.

I heard this as a cassette in the summer of 1976 while on a 2 1/2 month canoe trip thru Northern Minnesota--fell in love with the music first, then the lyrics...went out & found the LP..played it to pieces and just recently replaced my CD as a b-day gift for myself. Joni Mitchell has soul and wisdom and passion in every strum and plunk of the guitar....ever song tells a story!

Ultimate Collection is the most comprehensive anthology yet assembled for Jerry Jeff Walker, with tracks spanning the late '60s through the late '70s. "Mr. Bojangles" is here with other crowd pleasers like "Pissin' in the Wind," and "Up Against the Wall Redneck." There's the problem. Ultimate Collection focuses on his rambunctious songs and skips some of his early poetry. In addition, even though all but one of his hits from the '70s is included, none of his '80s hits are. Ultimate Collection is an imperfect survey of Jerry Jeff Walker's music, but it still will have plenty popular appeal.

Neil Young-Live At Messey Hall 1971 *****
Live at Messey Hall, 1971, is one of the most intimate and enchanting performances from Neil Young on tape. Recorded when many concidered him to be at the height of his power, the time period of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, After the Gold Rush , and Harvest. Well this is the album that was supposed to be released between the last two, according to Young anyway. "David Brigg, my producer wanted to release it but I wanted Harvest out, and listening to it all these years later I can see why."
Bridging the gap between the two albums. Showing many of the songs from Harvest in their infant stages, and some in the final forms they would appear on the album. But it is this stripped down version that ... Read More:

This album gets kind of lost between the masterful comeback Time Out of Mind and the recent, magnificent Modern Times, but it's just as good as those two albums, and it's a masterpiece on its own terms.
It's probably Dylan's most eclectic album musicially. It's all over the place, with hard guitar driven rock (Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, Honest with Me), hardcore blues (Lonesome Day Blues, Cry a While), swing (Summer Days), Hoagy Carmicael balladry (Bye and Bye, Moonlight, and Po' Boy), spooky blues (High Water and the closer Sugar Baby), and beautiful, moving ballads (Mississippi, Floater). Dylan's voice is pretty croaky here, but somehow it suits the material quite well, even on the lovely ballads like Floater and Mississippi. Mississippi is quite a beautiful ... Read More:

Any fan of KT Tunstall will love this, but what's up with the DVD menu?
This is a minor point overall but it drives me CRAZY (short trip). The content of both the CD and DVD are great with the CD being the high point. Great music. However, the audio on the DVD MENU is all chopped up, constantly starting and stopping. Does anyone else have this problem or is it just me? :-(
How can they put out such a nice piece of work and screw up the DVD menu?
Still, this is great music, an enjoyable DVD, and HIGHLY recommended for any KT Tunstall fan.
This is another great CD of hits by Tom T. Hall. Two days ago, I got to hear him on XM radio, interviewed by Bill Anderson, and a couple of songs from this album were mentioned. He mentioned not being allowed to sing "I Love," on network TV, because one of the things he loves is, grass. The Tv censor took "Grass," to mean pot. Any fan of Tom T. Hall knows that would be the furthest thing from his mind when he mentioned grass. He was of the generation which, if he wanted to alter his mind, would do it with beer. see "I like Beer." "Deal," "Fox on the Run," and "Old Side of Town," were totally new to me when I got this, and I love them all. "Old Side of Town," sounds like a George Jones song. "Homecoming," was first offered to Bill Anderson himself, who passed on it, letting Tom ... Read More:

Listening to this album brings back those long lost days of youth and, like a fine wine, leaves a silky, if somewhat bittersweet, finish on my memory's tastebuds.
I remember seeing JB in Champaign in 1978...the Running On Empty tour. I'd been listening to him and buying every album since Saturate Before Using was released, but it seemed it took the popularity of ROE and The Pretender to open my friends' ears to the talent of this troubador. I've always marvelled at the poetry as well as the music on his first 4 albums.
JB has always been very political, but it was more tender, ironical and subtle on his early albums. I may not have always agreed with his politics, but I've always loved and admired his ability to put it into words the way he did.

Cat Stevens has a distinctive voice, and it really comes out on this CD. I don't love every song, and none of the songs made it to pop hit status as I recall, but who cares if you love his voice, you'll love this CD.

Like most of his other live work "Before the Flood" lacks the light and shade of the studio albums - everything is at one volume (loud) and flatly sung. The performances of The Band, however, are excellent and give this album the lift it needs. If you want to hear a better Dylan live album then you might want consider "Hard Rain", which came out a few years later.
