In my opinion this is Jimmy's best album!!!
Twist on word play and his joy of flying and the ocean makes me ready to cruise to St Criox

I'm not normally given to writing comments, but this album makes me feel the need... so here goes:
In the early 70s my sister and I were traveling from the BC coast to the Alberta/Saskatchewan boarder to visit friends. As we approached Calgary, we heard on a Calgary radio station that Kris was playing a concert in 2 days. We found a phone booth and checked to see if we could get tickets... we could.
We slept in the car and washed up in public washrooms (drying our hair under those hand blowers), since we were short on cash... and waited.
At the concert we were entranced.
As we continued on our journey, no words were necessary. Every so often we'd just look at each other and grin from ear to ear. ... Read More:

This CD is one of the finest collections of true country music you will ever find. You can hear in his voice how he has lived every song, not just playing the music, but telling stories of his past. I guess that is why I call it true country music. And if you are new to David Allan Coe, this is a great place to start.

I am not a Celine Dion fan normally, but stumbled onto this mix for many of the other titles on this CD. The brief download does not give her version of God Bless America justice. This arrangement builds slowly, eliciting "what the heck are you listening to?" comments and grows until anyone in listening range has goose bumps. I played it while stopped for hours on the freeway in front of Moore Park College where the long lines formed for Ronald Reagan's casket review and people on the side of the road actually gathered around the car and asked me to replay it. A must for any fan of patriotic music.

Lizard is just plain fun. This album is all original work that goes back to the basics of island-hopping fun. Another overlooked Buffett gem.

"Chelsea hotel" by Lloyd Cole may very well be the worst cover in history. What madness would provoke someone to turn this great song into an upbeat softrock abortion? I love the drumming especially, wow, it makes me want to drive screwdrivers into my ears. And how it falls off after the chorus, So dramatic! -- like the buildup of a cheap soap opera before a commercial for douches. Total garbage. There are few greater crimes than taking something great and pointlessly remaking it into something awful. Stop me before I listen to that awesome harmonic solo again!

James McMurtry is one of those rare artists who have been getting progressively better with each album. His stellar debut, Too Long in the Wasteland, was a classic piece of American agitation rock. McMurtry, son of Larry McMurtry, is a literate lyricist with a keen eye for detail and a downbeat look at the inconsistencies of life. But like many superb debut artists, the sophomore album was not quite as good as the debut.
"Candyland" was guided towards a heartland rock sound (likely due to John Mellencamp's production and members of his band on board as players) and in later years, McMurtry has become a terrific folk-singer. The opener, "Where's Johnny" is kind of the anti-"Jack and Diane," so it is easy to see Mellencamp's attraction. (Think of Mellencamp's ... Read More:

This show was an attempt to pay tribute to all of the lives lost on September 11, 2001. "America: A Tribute to Heroes" was a benefit concert organized by actor George Clooney and broadcast by the four major United States television networks in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and The Pentagon. Done in the style of a telethon, it featured a number of national and international entertainers performing to raise money for the victims and their families, particularly but not limited to the New York City firefighters. It aired September 21, 2001, uninterrupted and commercial-free. It was released on December 4, 2001 on compact disc and DVD.
On a dark stage illuminated by hundreds of candles, twenty-one artists performed songs of ... Read More:

I know there are many who rank Muswell Hillbillies with the best work of the Kinks that started with Face to Face in 1966 and certainly continued through Lola in 1970. This LP has always split the Kinks landscape. Many rank it with their golden period; many see it as the start of the big decline. This is a transitional album, much different from Lola, and I see it as the beginning of a more superficial and derivitive Ray Davies. Don't get me wrong. When compared to stuff like Soap Opera, Low Budget or Schoolboys In Disgrace, this looks like classic stuff. But compared to ANY of the 66-70 period (Face To Face, Something Else, VGPS, Arthur and Lola), this is pretty mediocre stuff. I admit it's grown on me, and there a few places they go on this album they never revisited, but as one ... Read More:
