I discovered Dar Williams on a folk station on launchcast that I selected by accident. "The Christians and the Pagans," happened to be the first song to come on and I have been hooked ever since. Her voice is great, but what really drew me was her songwriting. Even songs like Christians and Pagans, which would seem to be just a fun song on the outside, has sly drop-ins like references to candy canes made with red dye #3!
The whole disc is really solid but other than the aforementioned "The Christians and the Pagans," my favorite song on the disc is "February."

I'm really surprised (and delighted) by all the positive reviews out there. I remember when this album came out, and the reviews were pretty tepid. Nevertheless, I pressed on, and I made this my first Jimmy Buffett album. I've always really liked it a lot, and I still break it out quite a bit.
I love the title song, one of my all time favorite Buffett songs. I've played it maybe 200 times or so (really), but it never gets old. The Weather is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful is another hilarious, charming song, and I adore the cover of Little Miss Magic. It's tender and quite moving. It reminds me a lot of Come Monday, one of Jimmy's most beautiful ballads.
Jimmy Buffett is never really taken seriously as a great ... Read More:

I just listened to this today for the first time in a few years; I'd forgotten how great an album it is.
I've been a follower of Steve Earle's career since his first New York City shows, at the old Lone Star, in the mid-eighties. Saw him again as the opening act for Bob Dylan, and again at a rally outside the Republican convention in 2004. I always try to catch his rare TV appearances. I'm a fan of his radio show. I have all the albums, and they're all exceptional. It's like being asked to pick your favorite child, but for me, "Trancendental Blues" is his greatest achievement. At about the point this afternoon when "I Don't Want To Lose You Yet" faded into "Halo 'Round the Moon", I was reminded again of this simple fact: If anyone has ... Read More:

The song Mercy Now is life-changing. It's as beautiful as anything I've ever heard, and full of mercy. What a miracle of a song.
This is another great CD of hits by Tom T. Hall. Two days ago, I got to hear him on XM radio, interviewed by Bill Anderson, and a couple of songs from this album were mentioned. He mentioned not being allowed to sing "I Love," on network TV, because one of the things he loves is, grass. The Tv censor took "Grass," to mean pot. Any fan of Tom T. Hall knows that would be the furthest thing from his mind when he mentioned grass. He was of the generation which, if he wanted to alter his mind, would do it with beer. see "I like Beer." "Deal," "Fox on the Run," and "Old Side of Town," were totally new to me when I got this, and I love them all. "Old Side of Town," sounds like a George Jones song. "Homecoming," was first offered to Bill Anderson ... Read More:

By the time "Son of a Son" is released Buffett has become a huge star, headlining big arenas across the country and cultivating his legion of "parrot head" fans. His last album "Changes In Latitudes" was a lot to live up to, and although "Sailor" is not quite as good it does come very close. Buffett managed two more huge hits from this album, the title track and the novelty song "Cheeseburger In Paradise". The album charted in the top 10. Buffett writes every tune on this one and the results for the most part are very good. "Livingston Saturday Night" is an aggressive rocker that was also in the "Rancho Deluxe" and "FM" soundtracks. "Coast Of Marseilles" is a nice lost love song. "Cowboy In The Jungle" ranks right up there with Buffett's best with ... Read More:

I don't remember what made me buy this album but I am glad I did.
I am always looking for something good out of the mainstream and
this album fits the bill. Down to earth, no over production with
some catchy tunes and good lyrics.

THEY WERE CRAZY FOR BREAKIN UP, BUT THIS IS BY FAR THEIR MOST POWERFUL MUSIC YET, VERY THOUGHT PROVOKING, EMOTIONAL BLISS WHEN LISTENING TO THIS TALENT
