The best song on this album is Pirate Radio, other than than, most of the songs seem a bit uninspired. Not my favorite Hiatt album by long shot. Still, long time fans will be pleased, but be advised, he has better stuff out there.

Raitt claims this album was an attempt to get back to her roots, and was surprised when critics labeled it as an attempt to go New Wave. The funny thing to me is that she would see this as going back to her roots. This album sounds NOTHING like any of her early work, and songs like "Me and the Boys" could have been included on the soundtrack to "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
This is a rocking album, but it also has a cold, metallic feel that is as far away from albums like her eponymous debut and 1972's "Give it Up" as she can get. (Actually, the furthest she ever got was her next album, 1986's "Nine Lives" but that's for another review.)
"Green Light" is far from Raitt's best. It's a bridge between her 70s work and her ... Read More:

What does have this man that every song he creates is beautifull? in a completely men perspective Mr Lanegan creates melancholic and appealing atmospheres, so folk, southern , grey , very enjoyable, Mr Lanegan thougths are 100% male and its about time a rigth and perfect image of real men (like i consider myself)were showed by a singer/songwritter like this great performer, poetry surrounds every melody, and beautifull lyrics fill that acoustic riffs that are the main ingredient in his albums, it worths to get every Mark Lanegan recording.

"Human Touch" and "Lucky Town", the two albums Springsteen released on the same day in 1992 and without the E Street Band, often get a bad rap. This isn't entirely undeserved; Bruce flirts with generic rock more than ever on these two albums. For the first time in his career, the records were uneven, a far cry from the fantastic line-up of albums he had released prior.
That said, neither album is a complete waste, and taken on their own terms without comparison to earlier records, they're fairly good. "Human Touch" is the weaker of the two. Whereas "Lucky Town" explored true happiness in marriage (a complete turn-around from 1987's brilliant love-gone-bad "Tunnel of Love"), "Human Touch" is sort of an odd-man-out. Bruce comes dangerously close ... Read More:

"My Ride's Here" is neither a great Warren Zevon album or a clunker. Overall I find it rather average for Zevon although there are several great tracks on the disc. "Sacrificial Lambs", the Celtic influenced "MacGillicuddy's Reeks", "You're A Whole Different Person When Your Scared", and the title track are all very good. Another great song is "Hit Somebody" which is possibly the best song about Hockey ever written. The song features talk show host David Letterman yelling out "hit somebody" in the background of this story of an NHL hockey goon who just wants to score a goal. The rest of the album is all decent, but nothing mind blowing. I also find it interesting that Zevon does two covers on the album which is unusual for him. That coupled with the album ... Read More:

For the most part more subdued than Boneclouds, but by no means sparse or lacking strong melodies or harmonies... Perhaps the thing I like most about this CD (other than the fact it's by Mason Jennings) is the diversity of the songs on it. You have things like the quiet and melancholy sound of "The Light," the whimsical and upbeat "Keepin' it Real," and typically bittersweet songs like "Fourteen Pictures" or "Drinking as Religion." Every song, though, is full of Jennings' rich chord progressions and intricately crafted lyrics. It took me a little while to get into this CD, especially after listening to Boneclouds, which is, I think, a lot more oriented to stronger, brighter harmonies and is generally (even the sad songs) a lot more upbeat, whereas this is pretty melancholy on ... Pete Townshend has always been one of my favorite songwriters. He never flinches away from saying whatever he feels like, and never fails to impart that notion with exactly the right musical notation. Empty Glass spills over the brim with excellent songs and emotional rantings. It staggers and sways through a room full of musical ideas and brings them into your consciousness with sobering ease. If you were to only buy one Pete Townshend record... find a way to buy more. But if you have to settle, this would certainly be a good place to rest your ears. Not that you'll rest easy. It rocks and rolls and tinkers it's way into sounds in and out of subliminal focus. Rough Boys, Cats in the Cupboard and Gonna Get Yer will shake the very foundations of your soul, while And I Moved, I Am An ... Read More:

I picked up Joe Henry's "Fuse" when it first came out on the strength of gushing reviews. I was immediately smitten with "Monkey," and bored to tears with the rest. I tried to get through "Fuse" three times, and each was more painful than the last (I single-tracked "Monkey" a whole lot, though). I vowed never to get within ten feet of a Joe Henry CD ever again. But then I heard "Animal Skin" on the radio and gave him one more try.
"Tiny Voices" looks great on paper. You would think from the reviews here and elsewhere that Joe Henry is the second coming. I agree with other reviewers that it's "uncategorizable," but "uncategorizable" can mean a lack of focus. I also agree that it's "jazzy:" it clunkily incorporates a surficial jazz sound which constantly interrupts ... Read More:

I'm not a huge Keen fan but this is my favorite of his albums. "Levelland" in particular is some good songwriting. I like Margo Timmins but I'm not sure I like her so much in this context, and "Then Came Lo-Mein" is just weird and self-absorbed.
