George Harrison's 1974 rush-release suffers from his obvious laryngitis - surely he could have waited until a full recovery. Not surprisingly, the best track on "Dark Horse" is the opening instrumental, "Hari's on Tour." Despite the impeccable musicianship, George's shredded voice ruins everything from the title song to an unnecessary remake of "Bye Bye Love." The world's finest digital remastering cannot salvage Harrison's weakest album.

Hello again my people. I thought you might be interested in reading a radio interview I gave on my favorite Seer talk-music radio station years ago. WOCC Ultimate FM was the best on the dial. The two most talented DJs, Telly Kinetic and Clare V. Oyant, conducted the procedure. They, of course, provided the required brandy and cigar so I would be comfortable. They even had mechanics give my carpet a 30,000 mile check up. Well, since no money was involved I had to be compensated some way! You do know the word "free" is disappearing from the dictionary, don't you? Anyway, for your pleasure, it is as follows:
T: We have in our studio today that world reknown and mega talented Metamorpho!
M: (blushing) Well, I wouldn't say that, ... Read More:

I expect much more than this from the guy who wrote "The Pretender" and like five other great songs. The low points are incalculable. Let's start at the first song, the title track. It's Browne trying to philosophize about sex. Needless to say, it falls apart quite quickly. "The Night Inside Me" is an introspective dud. Seriously, it's another one of those "I was so stupid then, but now I'm smart" songs that you've all heard waaaaay too many times for them to be convincing anymore. "Don't You Want to Be There" is, for some incomprehensible reason, stretched to eight minutes when it didn't have enough ideas for two. And he's in "look-at-me-I'm-a-poet" mode in several songs ("Walking Town"; nightmarish inspirational "About My Imagination"; "My Stunning Mystery ... Read More:

A really great solo album, much different from his funky/rocky Scabs and Ugly Americans stuff (and way more toned down, languagewise). This album is much more sensitive, like you feel he's opening up a part of himself and letting you see it, taste it, feel it, etc. I love "Under My Skin" & "Metal & Steele." I definitely recommend this album. I don't know why he hasn't become a superstar worldwide (yet). He's got what it takes. He's not only an amazing singer/songwriter/musician but he also writes poetry and does art. He's done some of his own album covers and also has a book or two of his stuff.
The fact that Bob is "easy on the eyes" doesn't hurt things either, ladies!

Truly one of the most underrated artists out there. This album soothes the soul. I've only had it two years now, but i haven't stopped listening to it. Great music.

John Lennon is shown here in this box set as a true individual that he was. Afforded independence to do what he wanted, one gets a feeling of honesty which one rarely hears from major artist. On the other hand, if your not a complete Lennon nut like myself, I wouldn't buy this set. I would try a "greatest" CD first then if it's to your liking, come back
and get this Box set. To me, this set was just what the doctor order...I needed a little of Dr. Winston O'Boogie to get me through the "Holidays".

Some good, some mediocre. The good: Enough of the Night, Chasing you into the Night, How Long, My personal Revenge, and Lights and Virtues. The rest, well, in my opinion not up to normal Jackson Browne standards. There's enough good to buy the CD, as I did (an inexpensive used copy), but not near his best. If you're a Jackson Browne collector, as I am, buy it, if you're new to Jackson, buy his double CD, The Very Best of Jackson Browne, or any of his first five albums, Jackson Browne (Saturate Before Using), For Everyman, Late For the Sky, The Pretender, or Running on Empty. They're all far superior, in all respects, to World in Motion.

So I was catching up on what Greg Dulli's been up to, (his recent Twilight Singers effort "Powder Burns" is just great). Well Lanegan as many of you probably know appears quite a bit with Greg and in fact offers a nice contribution with his low gravelly voice providing a nice contrast to Dulli's vocals. As an old Screaming Trees loyalist, it was a natural jump to take a gander at Lanegan's solo projects.
I listened to Bubblegum plenty of times, and while the good contributions he makes to the work of others are present in Bubblegum, there are gaping holes as well, namely the songwriting. The lyrics are fine, the production is fine, but the music is boring, weak, and completely forgettable. Thankfully forgettable. I couldn't find a single track to move me. Unless you can't live without his voice, I'd ... Read More:

Jesus H. Krishna - where did this forgotten gem come from?
From the high water mark of "All Things Must Pass" in 1970 that served as a compendium for all of his accumulating and unused Beatles-era work, George Harrison's more recent solo output has been at its best, spotty and at worst, downright desultory. Sharing the stage with Eric Clapton and taken from his last, very abbreviated, solo tour in 1991, Live In Japan (re-released after a ten year plus absence) brilliantly showcases a reinvigorated Harrison in top form - ripping through his Beatles and solo canon with a delicate ferocity that is both moving and completely unexpected.
The Beatles chestnuts are all here however, it is on some of his lesser-known solo compositions that his enthusiasm for the material really shines - in particular "Devil's ... Read More:

This two disc mini-box set contains a plethora of material from Zevon's career up to 1996. It is a stunning collection of music that once again gives credence to Zevon's claim of being one of the great American songwriters of our generation. 44 tracks are represented on this collection and just about all of them are great with only a few exceptions. Zevon really only had one hit single in "Werewolves Of London" along with a few songs that got some AOR airplay like "Lawyers Guns And Money" and "Excitable Boy", so the majority of this collection are songs that many non Zevon fans may have never heard. Zevon was a genius with lyrics that most of the time featured either a biting cynicism or character studies of rather twisted and flawed people. Zevon was able to maintain a surprisingly consistent career throughout the 2 decades represented ... Read More:
