By the mid 90's Neil Young had been discovered by a whole new generation of younger fans earning him the moniker of "the godfather of grunge". Thus it was only natural that he would record an album with a band who is arguably one of the best of the grunge movement, Pearl Jam. "Mirror Ball" is a collaborative effort between Young and Pearl Jam that unfortunately comes off as rather average. Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder is mostly absent (although does sing a bit of lead on "Peace And Love" and background vocals elsware) so this is mostly Young with the instrumentalists from the band. Neil always sings songs about love and friends. This is a nice easy country album. Relaxing and truthful. I am a 62 year old woman who has followed Neil since day one. I like Neil so much that I recently bought myself a guitar, mandolin, harmonica and a clavinova (electric, acoustic, computerized piano) and am learning how to play his music. I love it all. Rock 'n' Roll Gramma!

John Lennon is shown here in this box set as a true individual that he was. Afforded independence to do what he wanted, one gets a feeling of honesty which one rarely hears from major artist. On the other hand, if your not a complete Lennon nut like myself, I wouldn't buy this set. I would try a "greatest" CD first then if it's to your liking, come back
and get this Box set. To me, this set was just what the doctor order...I needed a little of Dr. Winston O'Boogie to get me through the "Holidays".

Lawyers in Love

Wow, this one almost gets forgotten about. He never plays anything from "Lawyers in Love" in concert. Maybe it's because the album is oh so dated sounding. Despite that, the title track is downright classic JB. Whatever political commmentary you take from it, it is quite a catchy tune with brilliant vocals. "On the Day" and "Cut it Away" are decent tracks also. "Tender Is The Night" had some good airplay, and occasionally gets some concert play. But the rest of LIL has that very forgettable tinny eighties sounds that most of us want to forget. The absence of David Lindley really makes this one a 'need not own' JB album. Fans often try and discount it's predecessor "Hold Out" as well, but in truth, it is much more cohesive album than LIL - and it does not sound ... Read More:

Until recently, I was aware only that John Hiatt is a song writer who crafted songs covered by others. Last month I saw him in solo performance and the next day I purchased this anthology. This collection is jaw-dropping in scope - from early Nashville days, to much more contemporary writing and performing. This is a great beginning point; in fact, I've already added "The Tiki Bar Is Open" and "Master of Disaster" to my collection. I appreciate wry wit in songwriting, from Richard Thompson to Albert Collins, and John Hiatt ranks right up there. This investment investment pays great dividends.
