I am blown away at Sondre's talent. His song writing ability is up there with John Lennon, Jeff Lynn and Paul McCartney. There's no weak songs on this cd. Every song is unique and strong. Sondre sounds like an unplugged John Lennon. His voice reminds me a little of the singer from They Might Be Giants, but much better - much wider range. I think he has a very cool voice.

This album has such gorgeous songs on it...I listen to it over and over. The meaning and feeling in each song is wonderful. Michelle Branch has such an amazing voice and she is such a great songwriter. True talent!

Emerging from the shadow of Kurt Cobain in the late 90's, Elliott Smith was perhaps the greatest singer songwriter of his generation. Smith's genius was his unabashedly honest, naked, poetic lyricism that was so beautifully complemented by his unpretentiousness acoustic guitar. Like none that came before him, Smith delivers note after note of haunted, sparkling melancholy. Far from gloomy, his songs radiate with incredible emotional intensity. Combining an unbridled punk rage within the guise of an acoustic folk song, his songs speak for themselves. Reflective and introspective, each song unfolds like a delicately wrapped package, revealing itself slowly. Smith's songs present themselves like late night thoughts that just won't go away. Fiona returns, and she is on fire. A quite impressive album, though it falls a hair short of achieving the brilliance of 'When The Pawn...' I prefer this over 'Tidal' which in itself is pretty spectacular as well.
Release Date March 28, 2000
This CD never gets old. I love a lot of the stuff that Aimee has done, but this is my favorite from start to finish. "Red Vines", "How Am I Different" and "Deathly" (to name 3) rank with Aimee's finest work--thoughtful, original lyrics set against highly melodic, catchy, almost Beatlesque rock. What strikes me about Bachelor #2 is how it stands up to repeated (and repeated) play. I buy a lot of music, and this is definitely one of my Top Ten of the last ten years or so. Take my word for it. If you like good music, you'll love Bachelor #2.

My tastes are ecclectic but musical excellence is critical. The female pop style is grating on my ear for a variety of reasons, and I would not have sampled Tori Amos except I got sucked into her Wicki Bio.
She hasn't changed my mind about the genre, and I sometimes wish she would let her normal voice out a little more but I understand she has to sell records. But even the vocal style cannot cover the music.
Incredibly (to me) she has made my standard playlist.
Release Date November 17, 1998
This is a collection of spiritual soft pop music. Jewel did it again with "Hands" and "Down So Long." Jewel can sing in s little girls voice and in a baritone/tenor voice as well which helps make her so talented. If you like pop music and religious references, then this album is for you.
Release Date November 09, 1999
This is the second time that I've purchased this album...I bought it the day that it was released back in 1999, and I finally wore that copy out a few weeks ago. While I love everything Fiona Apple puts out, this remains both my favorite CD of hers and of all time. This is one of those rare albums where every single song is amazing, and you can listen to it without having to touch your "skip track" button. While "Fast As You Can" was the biggest hit as a single, songs like "A Mistake" and "To Your Love" can only be described as Beatles-esque. "The Way Things Are," "Get Gone," and "I'll Know" are some of the (if not the) most insightful and thoughtful songs about being in an unsatisfying relationship that I've ever heard. Fiona weaves charming plays-on-words effortlessly into ... Read More:

There is no doubt in my mind that sits at the same height as The Beatles' greatest work and should be listened to by everyone who likes them. While it is admittedly much more down in the lyrical content, the melodies are sublime and joyous in a way. I started out with Either/Or but this is much, much better, and next I'll be getting his self titled.
Regardless of whether you like his early albums, here Elliot Smith is at the peak of his compositional powers and you should definitely listen to this album.
