Gemma Hayes is a very strikingly beautiful 24 year old from Tipperary, Ireland. She decided about five years ago to drop out of college and try playing music. Her family was pissed. After a few years working in a launderette, and playing in local pubs, she got some support gigs for David Gray and Beth Orton. She waited two years to sign a record deal. Hayes spent that time developing her unique vision. Record companies were looking for the next PJ Harvey. She ended up signing with a French label and recording her album with Dave Fridmann at Tarbox Studios. "Our Shadows Will Remain" is up to the same excellent standards Joseph Arthur has set with "Come to Where I'm From"(my favorite) and Redemption's Son".

You can't go wrong with any of these three and if you like Joseph Arthur -you should go ahead and get them all. "Nuclear Daydream" and "Big City ..." are fine for a fan (which I am), but start with one of the three I suggest here if you are just being introduced to him.

Great listen. All of the music is very slow and easy. There are few tracks but all tracks are pretty long. A great CD to chill out with. If you like good music, and who doesn't? and you're not too high-strung, give it a try.

Don't let Orton's heart-wrenching cover of Ooh Child fool you into thinking this is little more then a glorified b-sides/remix disc exploiting her small fan base, and reminding all others of her trite songwriting abilities. She needs to stick to the minimalist acoustic thing, because when she even ventures into electronic-ville, her songs are devoid of life.

This is an absolutely wonderful cd. I personally like it much better than his new one, but Australia and this one really, truly showcase his talent as a guitarist and singer-songwriter. This music is honest and heartfelt. I hope Howie's next cd will be more like this EP and Australia. That's more what the music industry needs - honesty and true talent, less Ashlee Simpson and other manufactured singers.

this is probably the first album i've picked up since ' little plastic castle ' even on little pastic castle, ani was changing: she had gone from being just a folkie with a guitar, to princess ani the ska queen.....her band also grew....you knew ani had arrived when prince played on one of her albums....


ani's still folk, but her sound has evolved; it's more polished and sophisticated. i love the way she uses brass and wind instruments, especially on " oh, my, my, my;" " serpentine," is a semi spoken word song, which ani as usual, goes on one of her patened rants...." icarus," i also loved alot....as well as the title track and " second intermission." ani's always been a cool poet and her singing never fails to mesmerize, but i agree with some ... I was very disappointed with this, but gave it 3 stars because it's probably my fault for not listening to the samples or reading the description closely enough. I don't know what I was expecting when I got this, but am a Jewel fan and thought it was just different versions of her "Serve the Ego" single. It is, but they're dance club mixes, and I can't see why anyone would enjoy listening to this CD unless they're on the dancefloor or at a club. The tracks are all repetitive and pretty much all sound the same to me. All drum beats with her lyrics every couple of minutes.

I don't want to fault the CD since I'm not a fan of dance mixes and can't judge whether this is a good one or not since I don't know what constitutes a "good" dance mix, but buyer beware, ... Read More:
