I feel that Theo Bleckmann is a unique vocal artist. His voice as a transparency that floats on the air and doesn't clutter the music as written by the composers he selects to highlight. He has made a name for himself with several collaborative projects with Ben Monder. For my money, this work transcends them all. He brings a wonderful nuance and clarity to these works sung in both German and English. I highly recommend this disc as well as his disc recently released with Meredith Monk. You will not be sorry

I don't feel particularly qualified to comment on anyone's musicianship. However, I can tell the difference between an instrument well played and, well, the opposite. Love Ma's playing, and this is a nice representation of his repertoire.

I bought this album to explore more tracks by Hildegard after listening to one of her songs on an anthology. This music crosses centuries, languages, and religions, I feel. I am not a Christian, and the reason I listen to Georgian Chant is to study, because it focuses my thoughts exponentially. It completely drowns out the noise of the world and helps to gather my ideas. This did not get 5 stars because it wasn't what I was looking for. I wanted to hear tracks with a mixed gender choir but this album only goes from single male/male choir to single female/female choir, on alternating tracks.
This is still an excellent study aid and should be recommended for use as much as pencils and pens.

I bought this CD and Music for Concentration one night as I was studying for my CPA Exam. The soft sounds and relaxing tones makes it easy to concentrate and therefore, increase productivity. I love it so much that I use it as background noise as I work, study and excersize (yoga and pilates)
Anyone looking for the perfect background noise to let your brain relax and think without distractions should get this CD!

THIS IS PHENOMENAL!!!
I own all the surround versions of this music in SACD and DVD-audio formats. Much as I like the Norrington on SACD, this one is the best, musically. The original LPs and RBCD issues, while good, did not do justice to what the Philips engineers had captured on their master tapes at Westminster Cathedral in November of 1969. The Spano on Telarc, while good, is way too polite for the fire and brimstone this work really needs. His also lacks the acoustics this work needs to envelop the listener, not to mention Spano is tame, when compared to Davis. Davis can be completely sweet and lyrical, then suddenly ferocious, while always succeeding in maintaining the long lines of musical argument.

I'll always be grateful to David Saint George, the musicologist who recommended this recording to me about 20 years ago. Today I still pay plenty of attention to what music critics say, because I'm a perfectionist about the music I buy. Many probably believe that my standards are too high, but this recording exceeded my expectations.

As I type the words to this review, I am listening to Nessun dorma (Puccini, Turandof) over and over again from the CD collection I am now writing about. Good music is supposed to inspire, and this one inspires.
This six CD collection is from Best Film 100: The Great Blockbusters, The Classic Movies, Favorite Movies, The Piano at the Cinema, Opera at the Cinema (my favorite), and Baroque Goes to the Cinema.
The ironic part about listening to music from the movies is that it mainly goes unnoticed by people who would never claim to be classical or opera lovers in the first place. I'm sure that Mozart's, "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" fits perfectly in the movie "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," a movie I seem to continually miss, and it ... Read More:

Do not buy this recording. The quality is very poor. The "Cantique de Jean Racine" is hardly audible. Better pay a little more for a better recording. This one is a waste.
