First let's get this out of the way: This is a great soundtrack! One cannot help but visualize the film while listening. From Bob to the Gipsy Kings to Kenny Rogers. The songs are now forever linked to the Dude and Jesus and Maude. Anyone who loves the film will want to own this. This review isn't so much about that but about my criticism of film soundtrack criticism in general.
There are several reasons why a soundtrack like this is "incomplete". Most of the time a soundtrack featuring various artists includes much more music than can fit on one cd. With BL specifically obviously there were some tracks that seem like they "must" be included. Songs that were featured prominently (tumbleweeds) or are indispensible to the ... Read More:

There are several songs on this CD that are great including "A Woman ..." I first heard it at a Southern Miss baseball game and decided I wanted it. More songs like this one in another CD would be appreciated! If you like southern music this is the CD to get!

Rock `n' roll albums have become a sadly scarce commodity. Sure, there's indie rock, punk rock, modern rock and all manner of hyphenated descendants, but few artists still make rock music with roots that reach through all of the layers of decades past. The "'n' roll" has been lost in the translation. Luckily, New York-bred Willie Nile is one such artist, born just in time for early exposure to Presley, Holly and Domino, steeped in the Greenwich Village folk revival and reignited by the `70s punk explosion. His recording career came of age in the early '80s with a pair of albums for Arista, was derailed by legal setbacks with Geffen for the second-half of the decade, and restarted in 1991 with "Places I Have Never Been" on Columbia. Nile attracted ... Read More:

When it comes to the CCR sound I have all of it and without a doubt this is the best of the bunch. I have loved this CD from the begining. I did not have to listen to it over and over and convence myself the songs were good. I enjoyed the whole thing from start to finish and now 10 years later and after hearing Revival I still think it is by far his best work. Depth and maturity in the songs and vocalls and at the same time that unmistakable CCR sound on every song. If this would have come out in 68 it would have been the biggest seller ever.

Paul Thorn's America of faith healers and tent revivals is there between the Wal-Marts, strip malls and McDonalds that seem to be everywhere in this country. Its a beautiful and ugly place, it's strengths are the stories of people who we don't often hear about (Sister Ruby, for example, is a real person, I don't know about the Mission Temple Fireworks Stand, but I hope it's real too) and a joyous rocking sound, which we need to hear more of.
From the UK,America often gives the impression that it really is nothing more than one big McDonald's. Paul Thorn is evidence of another America, more different, beautiful and humane. Kind of like Brendan Croker (go look him up).

Unlike many other reviewers here, I'm NOT a Band fan. (Don't hate 'em, just don't love 'em.) And if you're looking for more Band, you're out of luck here, unless you can put your preconceptions aside and approach the album with an open mind. I would never have picked this album up on my own, but my husband introduced me to it. If I listen to it now, I skip through several of the songs: I can't stand Hell's Half Acre, or Sonny Got Caught... but I absolutely adore the real emotion that goes beyond pretty singing on Broken Arrow. Mind you, I do appreciate good singing, having taken voice lessons for many years -- I just don't think that it's necessary for a singer to sound like Michael Buble' to create a distinctive sound. And distinctive this ... Read More:

Everyone knows Los Lobos know how to rock, but this album shows their outstanding musicianship in the totally different context of traditional Mexican music. Using only acoustic instruments, they have produced an eminently listenable, smoothly produced and accessible entry point for the everyday listener to get into this rich musical tradition. Whether you are a serious or casual listener, or just want terrific background music for a dinner party, you can't go wrong with this album.

This is my favorite Isaak CD. It has a great sound-50's meets 80's production, great songs, and great presentation. This CD is really a must for an all night drive to Florida, or somewhere! I can just picture JW playing a Gretsch guitar with a Bigsby, through an old Fender amp with the reverb and tremolo turned way up. Very inspiring...
