I believe this is Knopfler's best all around solo effort ... it's beautiful, tender, aggressive at times and just wonderful as a whole. He is such a genius and his guitar playing shines through pretty much every song along with his subtle understated vocals. Really excellent...way to go Mark!
Release Date October 01, 2002
Mark Knopfler is a gem and remains one of the most enduring icons of real talent in a world of fleeting mediocrity. This CD is as solid as ever, is beautifully mastered, and easy to listen to. But, it takes no risks, shows none of the searing energy that used to make the hair stand up on the back of my neck, and simply does not showcase his limitless talent. I listen to Dire Straits religiously and crank up the volume like I'm still 20 years old. I listen to this CD once in a while. The old Mark Knopfler - the guy that stood toe to toe with Clapton at Knebworth and whipped the crowd into a frenzy - seems forever gone, and I miss him. I wish HE would record another CD, because DAMN that guy was good.

TYPICAL 1980'S CD BOXSET.
This was your typical 1980's boxset, when CD technology was first emerging. It contains about 60% previously released material, and 40% unreleased material (many of which should have never been released). Personally, I was not a fan of these releases, but I bought them anyway because the CD selections at the time were very limited.
Since this is an 1980's boxset, the sound quality is poor. Well, it isn't horrible, but it isn't very good. The sound is a little flat and muffled. It certainly, is not very good by today's CD standards.
The sound quality on most CD's 1980's CD's was not very good. Sure they sounded better than cassette tapes (which were the most popular media of ... Read More:

When it comes to guitar gods, none of them have really known how to shine brightly like Eric Clapton. On his own, and as a member of Derek & The Dominoes and Cream, he has shown for five decades what it is really like to be a Rock legend. But, his work on Warner Brothers during the 80's and 90's, proved to be a far departure from his legendary tracks like Layla and albums like Ocean Boluevard. Nevertheless, he kept on going, and made some of the best music of his career, and that can be shown on this album which is now available for downloading through Amazon.com's MP3's.
The 1999 Eric Clapton greatest hits album Clapton Chronicles: The Best Of Eric Clapton is a solo effort of Eric's strongest set of solo songs that have been all about the heart ... Read More:

Jeff Beck's Truth (1968), is a critically acclaimed and influential piece of work that features some great performances and historically rocks the blues. There are some great moments on this album, that's for sure.
It also frustratingly lacks direction and purpose as a whole album. Truth is all over the place, and there's not a lot of cohesiveness, and no concept. At times, it seems like it's a well organized all-star jam session that doesn't have any mission at all, other than to highlight the great performances.
Jeff Beck had already made a name for himself as a guitar hero while working as a session player and as a member of The Yardbirds when he replaced Eric Clapton in the group. After leaving The Yardbirds, he formed The Jeff Beck ... Read More:

Like a lot of people, I've been hearing VH on the radio for...well for a really long time. Unlike a lot of people, I've only starting buying albums in the last couple of years, and every VH I get consistently becomes a regular spinner on my player. I've got almost all the albums with DLR (minus DIver Down) and am now dipping into Van Hagar.
I got 5150 about two weeks ago and can't stop spinning it. I'm finding that Van Halen was certainly NOT THE WORSE for deciding to work with the HUGE TALENT of Sammy Hagar (and vice-versa) after parting with legendary front man David Lee Roth. I just ordered OU whatever, 812 (oh, I get it now) because I LOVE 5150 and I listened to the song clips for that, too, and they sound great, both songs I recognized and ones I'd never heard. ... The first song Purple Haze was the same arrangement Jimi Hendrix did when I saw him in 1967. What an incredible compilation. Exceptional for any Jimi Hendrix collector!
