I've actually owned this CD for a number of years, and it's a favorite I come back to again and again. This is the true sleeper hit for the SRV fan that might be familiar with his studio albums and some videos. This is what you give them when they are ready for the "next step" of delving into the mastery that is Stevie Ray Vaughan. I saw a review that said it was "too raw." Ha ha, doesn't that immediately sell you?! This recording is from Austin in 1980, a full three years before Texas Flood, but you wouldn't know it from how blistering a young Vaughan is. It's all there In the Beginning. What an awesome pun. Anyway, I enjoy this album also for the airy sort of summery live quality it has. It really comes off as a fantastic recording ... Read More:

A series of Jimi Hendrix performances from the Band of Gypsys concerts finally gets the deluxe treatment from MCA and Experience Hendrix, as tapes from both first and second shows are brought together, correctly identified (1986's Band of Gypsys 2 actually featured three tracks that weren't by the band at all) in one deluxe two-disc set. This newly expanded edition contains the only live versions of "Earth Blues," "Auld Lang Syne," "Stepping Stone," and "Burning Desire"; Hendrix tunes specifically worked up for the performance that rarely surfaced again like "Izabella," "Power of Soul," and "Who Knows"; newly remastered versions of "Stop" and "Hear My Train a-Comin'" (both originally presented on Band of Gypsys 2 in horrendous sound) and classic ... Pilgrim is a departure from the typical Clapton album in that it uses some programmed drums and beats, and also has some earthy-syth kind of music. However, Clapton's guitar is still featured throughout, and his vocals are in top form, especially on the tracks like River of Tears and You Were There. He's not the same person that jammed in Cream several decades ago, he's older and willing to branch out beyond the AOR format. I like this CD a lot. I think all of Clapton's stuff is at worst very interesting and always of value musically. Don't let the keyboards and loops keep you away from what Eric claims is his own favorite album, it's still rock and roll to me and there are some excellent tunes on this disc. I got this one used here on Amazon for ... Read More:

Oneness is a minor effort by the great Carlos Santana. The songs seem to be cut off very quickly as the extended solos just come in. Knowing Santana is a perfectionist makes me think that this was probably for the best. The art work and surrounding message are very spiritual, a little cultish looking back from our perspective and perhaps a little baffleing if you're not very familiar with eastern religion. He has some good moments as he does in all of his work especially in Song for Devadip. However, if you're not a very devoted fan I would stick to Barboleta, a very good album. There's nothing on Oneness that Santana hasn't done much better elsewhwere.

Very Good and enjoyed listening to Welcome to the Cruel World by Ben Harper but unfortunate when I first rated it I accidently confused it with another CD by Ben Harper so I'd like to apologize to you readers and liked to change my rating to 5 / out of 5 stars for Welcome to the Cruel World .

satch is pretty awesome. i've once heard him described as the guitarist's guitarist, and although i'm not a guitarist i'm not oblivious to the intense level of technicality he brings to what he does. this was more of a mellow album, though it has a lot of intense instrumentals. i most enjoy this album when i'm just relaxing or am on one of those natural highs. basically any state where i can just sit back and let the music roll over me.

In her 2nd album, Legs to Make Us Longer, Kaki King focuses on more compositional aspects, from the whole album's structure to each piece's sonority, than performance techniques. Alignment of chords in the first track and melancholic arpeggios in the last frame the album. Probably the album's most representative work, "Doing the Wrong Thing," displays distinctive sonorities, such as strings at the end and rhythmic counterpoint between Ben Perowsky's drums and King's guitar. With drums and bass, "Ingots" and "My Insect Life" (also featuring King's voice) are reminiscent of New Wave Rock in the 80s, whose influence would become more apparent in her later albums. Having confidence in musicianship after the debut album, King is seemingly searching the next.
