Delta Goodrem has established herself as a premier pop star in her native Australia with several albums and a number of singles that have climbed the international charts. Her voice is sparkling and vibrant, and she balances innocence and sensuality so often lacking in today's offerings. At times, she is wholly contemporary; at other times, reminiscent of the best of the land down under. She compares favorably to another Aussie -- Olivia Newton John -- a comparison that is most favorable.
Three songs on the album stand out:
"In This Life": In my opinion, this is the strongest on the album. The song showcases the power of her voice and a depth of emotion that belie her young age. The harmonies are clean and crisp, ... Read More:

Its been almost 5 years since Gavin Degraw's first cd "Chariot." I remember being blown away by Gavin Degraw when i first heard his album. Over these past five years I have found myself coming back to Chariot every so often and wondering to myself when I'd be lucky enough to hear some more Gavin. Here it is...
"In love with a girl", the first single off of Gavin Degraw is an alright song in my opinion, along the lines of "I don't wanna be" from his first album. However, once again his best work comes out in the remainder of the album. Songs like "Untamed", "Young Love", "Cop Stop", "She holds a key", and "We belong together" are all amazing. Definitely a must buy for anyone who enjoyed Chariot and for those of you who still haven't heard ... Read More:

'Remember that Night' might be billed as David Gilmour, but it comes off better than the Pulse DVD which is actually Pink Floyd - in name anyway if not in total execution (Roger Waters absence will always make it seem less than authentic and legitimate). Gilmour and fellow Floyd Richard Wright do very spirited versions of the old classics, and there's "Fat Old Sun" which Pink Floyd hasn't done since Atom Heart Mother days, a very welcome deep cut and great version. Being that it's Gilmour and not Floyd, there isn't nearly the spectacle and stage-show that Pink Floyd is associated with - so hearing the old Floyd numbers in what is a solo Gilmour context with Wright, and other Floyd-related musicians is a treat. Would be nice if Gilmour did any solo material ... Read More:

How stupid do a record label or band ( who knows which ) must be, that they won't make a partner to this album. WHERE IS VOL.2 ?? You must really not want the 1-2 million copies of this sold and all that money made. Wait much longer, and everybody will forget VAN-HALEN.

I love, love, love this CD! I heard the California song from iTunes and loved it. I listened to the samples of the other songs and HAD to have it! Every song is GREAT...they all have catchy beats and lyrics! I think that I have enough of Metro Station, but I just keep listening like I will never get enough! Listen to the samples and hear for yourself! :)

What I can't believe about the Old 97's is how long it took this dedicated, hard core, extremely critical music fan to find them. Not only is this album among the most well crafted popish, rock and roll records that I have heard in the past five years, the truly astonishing thing is that it is really no different than the quality of the music these folks have been putting out for nearly two decades. Outstanding. I have now listened to most of their music and it is hard for me to find a true misfire among the songs on any of their albums. Thoughtful, smart lyrics, twisted, dark, fun, off beat time signatures, and lots of unexpected twists and turns on a very tired genre. Going to see the Old 97's in Sept during Austin City Limits and then will catch them in Buffalo ... Read More:

Their first time out with the rawness and powerfully, explosive sound unmatched by any other artist, with the exception of Elvis,Please Please Me,consist of hard rockers and ballads showcasing each member of the band,McCartney's,I Saw Her Standing There, and,A Taste Of honey,Lennon's,Twist And Shout, and,Anna,Harrison's,Do You Want To Know A Secret, and Chains,Ringo takes the cue and wails on the potent rocker,Boys, featuring one of the better Harrison leads and of course there's,Please Please Me,the Beatles were probably not the best musicians in the world, gradually improving through the years, but there was a certain chemistry within themselves that combined a unit of one, with their tight harmonies and the brilliant songwriting,8 of 14 tracks are Lennon/McCartney compositions ... Just think, somewhere a father is saying to his daughter. "Youre going to a concert where they say what in the lyrics?" As he shakes his head.

A caveat - the 5 stars are for the music. 4 for pressing!
Re: Pet Sounds and OK Computer Capitol vinyl reissues:
These are better than the abysmal (imo based on disraeli gears and tea for the tillerman) "back to black" reissues.
both the capitol reissue of ok computer and of pet sounds that i bought today are dead quiet and neither suffer from obvious digitalis. they do not sound as if they were recorded using the cd as the source, which many people have felt about the b to b pressings.
the lead vocal on pet sounds is a tiny bit on the bright side (though it may simply be more revealing of whats there - and my system is extremely revealing and cuts no slack in this direction), but it's not brittle like tea for the tillerman is in places ... Read More:
