Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee John Mellencamp has recorded folk songs that make you Think. It's always Important to Think and Investigate the Facts. Not really sure why I bought this album in particular. I already had the new Coldplay CD in my cart and wanted to add another CD just to try something new and also to qualify for the free shipping. I was expecting to love the coldplay CD and wasn't expecting much out of Jason Mraz. It turned out to be the exact opposite!
With that said, I must say I am happily surprised by Jason Mraz's album. This isn't really my "type of music" to begin with, but Jason Mraz really offers something musically satisfying. I haven't heard anything that sounds like this prior to listening to this album.

It's a pop-hit, that's for sure. But...
"Ur So Gay"? Uhm, NO. Substitute the word "black" or "jewish" and describe your urban or frugal ex-boyfriend and you would be blacklisted in the musical world. I'm tired of "gay" being thrown around as a derogatory phrase. Grow up, already. It's not funny.
"I Kissed a Girl". Nice catchy song. But again, feeding into numerous stereotypes that aren't really cool, and by the way, why don't good girls kiss other girls? Sad attempt at shock-pop.
The rest of the album is good, but not great. Catchy tunes and music, sure, but not very memorable. "Mannequin" amd "Self-Inflicted" stand out the most in my mind as favourite songs. "One of the Boys" would be more enjoyable ... Read More:
Many of us are very familiar with ABBA's songs because we have heard them often over the years. Personally, I knew of them from a distance and never researched them until recently. Living in Germany placed me in the thick of the ABBA Fan Club as they are revered here in Europe. There are enough ABBA fans here to pack any venue where they would perform, believe that. Already familiar with tracks such as "Dancing Queen", "Take A Chance On Me" and "Mamma Mia", I can now associate ever so closely with their string of hits. As a DJ, it's imperative to have a worthy compilation such as this on hand at all times. Best believe if you are doing an old school set, an ABBA fan will reveal himself to you. More importantly, this music is nostalgic and full of great, ... Read More:

Easy listening with a touch of rock. Robert stills has it, even better! Also saw the concert, the harmony betweeen the two is fantastic.

It says a lot when the most striking and original thing about an album is the artwork on the liner notes. Unfortunatly, this is the case with Narrow Stairs. Although it is very similar to the poppy Plans, it has the problem of being just an extension of that album's material. There are no songs here that are catchy in a poppy way, or memorable in the lyrical way that the best Plans material, and the best pre-Plans DCFC material.
I've listened to this album 3 or 5 times since I bought it, but afterwards it quickly dropped into the vast reaches of my MP3 archive. If it surfaces from time to time I won't be upset, since all the songs are listenable and easily identifiable as DCFC. But I doubt that I will seek it out.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very good record. The songs and melodies are there. The harmonies are beautiful. But, for some reason, Fleet Foxes just don't stir me. I have a great respect especially considering the ages of the band members and the level of talent. However, this might just be a case where the hype surrounding this band kind of killed it for me before I had my first listen. I dunno... maybe it'll be a grower.

I got this cd three days ago, and if you told me then that I would be writing a good review for it on Amazon soon, I would have told you that you are nuts. I thought this cd was a complete disappointment on my first listen. The songs seemed lazy and uninspired which pretty much made the whole concept of the album boring. For some reason I have kept listening to the cd, and now I have changed my mind. I think it is a pretty decent concept album and it is thought out much more than it appears to be on the surface. It is basically a rock and roll version of the movie SCREAM. Alice has taken every cliche from traditional serial killer stories and turned them into something that can be performed musically. Everything on this album fits into place, whether it annoys the listener ... Read More:
