Homme Sans Racines is a great CD. "Plus d'importance" is really catchy, and "Paradis" is perfectly bittersweet.
I have to disagree with the French being clear, however. His pronunciation is a bit bizarre sometimes. For example, he very definitely says "Je ne seras plus... un homme sans racines" ("seras" is not the correct form of the verb), but that's just the French major in me speaking. Despite some pronunciation weirdness, it's a great CD. I highly recommend it.

This isn't just one of the best French rock albums ever. This isn't just one of the best rock albums from any non-English speaking country. This is one of the best garage rock albums produced anywhere. Drawing on the music of Bob Dylan, the Rolling Stones, and the Kinks, Jacques Dutronc adds an ironic wit that a generation of indie-rock hipsters would kill to have, and creates quite possibly the first great post-modern rock album. It helps if you speak French, but in any language "Les Cactus" and "Les Temps Sont Flous, Les Gens Sont Fous" are nearly perfect freakbeat stompers.
If you like this, I also recommend Serge Gainsbourg's pop-art masterpiece Initials B.B. and Francoise Hardy's gorgeous pop collection The Vogue Years.

This is a decent introduction to the group. When it came out in the late 1990's, it was crucial, because few people outside of Brazil knew of them. It has good, informative notes, too.
I agree with the reviews that say that this tends towards the poppy at the expense of their louder & more extreme material, and favors the first album at the expense of their excellent second and fifth albums. More importantly, the sequencing is confusing and ineffective. Why not go for straight chronology? Nonetheless, there are no weak tracks here.
Fanatics and collectors of the band may be interested to know that this collection contains some unexplained rare mixes found on none of their other in-print CDs. The mix of "Baby ... Read More:

Beautiful tunes, even though I do not speak French, still I enjoyed the songs very much.
Natasha has a voice sounds better than Lara Fabian to me.
Nevertheless both are great singers with beautiful songs to offer.

What music is all about. Ecstatic, passionate, infectious, intelligent. Taha's voix joli-laid is one of the sexiest around.

Since almost every known band (famous and not) has recorded some cover version of a Dylan song this compilation (and movie soundtrack)contains the most experimental, curious and particular ones Music style varies from Tribal,Hip Hop,Rap,Country,Folk,Rock, psych and others..Even if most of readers here, myself included, do not know some of the artists who play on this CD,the first intention could be not to buy the album ,but after listening to the whole thing you'll agree with me when I say these cover songs are extremely good,in few words Dylan Songs in a different point of view. It's a pity the man himself has excluded "My Back Pages" by punk Metal band Ramones or "This Wheel's on fire" by Siouxie and the Banshees ... Read More:

Singer, songwriter, filmmaker, poet, and provocateur, Serge Gainsbourg was a chain-smoking French icon. Best known only for his heavy-breathing hit, "Je T'Aime, Moi Non Plus" (recorded with his muse, Jane Birkin, who even simulated an orgasm on the song), a recent series of "Best of" compilation discs will hopefully give Gainsbourg the worldwide posthumous recognition he always deserved while he was alive. Gainsbourg's music is a fusion of classical, ballads, chanson, jazz, kitsch, mambo, pop (in all its forms), bossa nova, rock, reggae, disco, erotic, downtempo chillout lounge, and hip-hop. His lyrics were clever exercises in Franglais triple-entendres. He lived the life of cigarettes, alcohol, and seduction depicted in his songs. This 19-track 2005 compilation disc ... Read More:

As an introduction, I'm an American, and haven't had any French since high school. I first heard this band and the track "Le Vent Nous Portera" on an internet radio station, and bought the album. While I'm still puzzling out some of the lyrics, the *music* itself is great, even if you don't speak French, you'll enjoy it. They have a fairly broad range of styles represented, or haven't settled down on one style yet, but it's a solid piece of work. Highly recommend.
