I love the music on this album. I never in a million years would think of listening to this type of music, but it is very catchy. My favorites are "Hippie Men" aka "Ya Ya Men" and "Sweet Sixteen". The only thing I think is sad is that most of these people on this album were probably killed just because of their talents. If you have an open mind and a thirst to try different things, then this album is for you.

Well, it's a crime that this has not been reviewed yet. And I am not good enough to do Zazie justice. I have been thinking about why I like what I like. I think the standard is basically to compare everything against The Beatles. I think so much of what I like has the qualities of originality, harmony, melody, good rock, interesting lyrics, tells a story, makes you feel something, and to me, most importantly...makes me move my body. Zazie has all those qualities. I have heard people compare to her to other "more talented" singers. That isn't the point- Zazie does what she does and does it so well. So how do I describe? Maybe a jazzier Feist. But you can't exclude how the french language and way of thinking contributes to this music. It seems that ... Read More:

Not much french music get exported because most of it is too french. Jacques Dutronc's first album of 1968 is GREAT, it's a Classic, and will be immortalized in a decade or so. Come to think of it anything that was released in 1968 was amazing!! But I think this album reflects the political and social upheaval during the Paris 1968 student revolts. Dutronc portrays himself as the true countercultural that stands outside the chaos. Gainsbourg as gained his long overdue credit recently in the States. Dutronc is next. As an album, "Jacques Dutronc" only comes in second to "Melody Nelson."

My sister lives in Belgium and while I was visiting she would wake up to this CD before getting ready for school. I fell in love with this CD after hearing it a couple times. Natasha has the most beautiful angelic voice. I understand french a lot better than speaking it, but I would still love this CD even if I didn't know a word of French.

GAROU, the vocalist who wants to go by on one name.
Guess that GAROU (meaning WEREWOLF) views himself on the same level as MADONNA. On this CD "GAROU" tries too hard to impress the listener. He over sings (a la MICHAEL BOLTON) almost every note of every song sort of like a werewold whaling at the moon. Plus, it is much too early for him and his label SONY to place a LIVE RECORDING on the market when the artist has only ventured out with one studio CD of original material.
If you're searching to obtain a great FRENCH POP recording, I strongly suggest anything from "SYLVAIN COSETTE" or "BRUNO PELLETIER". Bruno is a currently one of the strongest male francophone vocalist on the planet. He has a tremendous vocal range that blends ... Read More:

Homme Sans Racines is a great CD. "Plus d'importance" is really catchy, and "Paradis" is perfectly bittersweet.
I have to disagree with the French being clear, however. His pronunciation is a bit bizarre sometimes. For example, he very definitely says "Je ne seras plus... un homme sans racines" ("seras" is not the correct form of the verb), but that's just the French major in me speaking. Despite some pronunciation weirdness, it's a great CD. I highly recommend it.

Jazzy songs are selected from few albums from 1958 to 1964. Some are recorded by trio including Elek Bacsik on guitar and Michel Gaudry on double bass. You can find some intrumentals too, like Angoisse, Black March {from movie L'Eau à la Bouche},...
My favourite song from this album is Black Trombone.
Put it on, open some wine, invite the girl, and you're gonna have an unforgettable evening.
Believe me....
