I became a fan in 1982 when I saw Indochine performing L'aventurier live on TV. I was the only one who knew about this great band of all the people I knew and I even got the Nicola Sirkis haircut:-) between the release of Le Peril Jaune and 3eme sexe. I knew some French, but just sufficient to get a grip of what the lyrics were about. But the truly unique thing was their stylish image in combination with great music. This record has a lot of good songs, the big hit of course being Kao Bang. However, this is one of these albums where the songs grow for every listen. My favourite tracks are La Secheresse du Mekong and A L'est de Java, but all tracks form some kind of unity together. I highly recommend this CD for those who are curious about french ... Read More:

I personally love Hassan's music. However,this is not one of his best albums. The problem is that it is too synthesized.His singing is wonderful,but they changed the music to something overtly western,which takes away from the inherant power that lies in gnawa music. However his last album "The Gift" is a marvel,in which he shows us that he can properly mix traditional gnawa rhythms with western and other musical styles.

I have had this CD for a number of years -- I bought it during a trip to France in 2002 and listened to a lot after I first got it. Then I couldn't find it for a long time and thought I'd lost it, until one day recently I found it in the case for a (weirdly enough) Staind CD. Wow, I forgot how great Garou is. I don't really understand French but that is absolutely not required to enjoy his music. Deep gravelly voice, decent music and arranging ... whenever I hear it I imagine I am sitting in a wine bar in France and my glass is at least half full. Yum!

En 1998, Virgin s'est dit que Daho méritait une compilation. Bien sûr on ajoute deux nouveaux titres et un inédit extrait d'un concert, mercantilisme oblige. Les vingt titres ne donnent pas une image exacte du chanteur puisqu'il n'est guère cantonné qu'à ses succès -et Dieu sait que certains sont d'infâmes rengaines ! Néanmoins en choisissant un ordre chronologique inverse (le premier titre est le plus récent et le vingtième le plus ancien), le compilateur a eu la bonne idée de ne pas limiter Daho a la période des années 80 où il a eu le plus de succès.
