Ok, this album caught me off guard. This is one strange, beautiful and amazing piece of music. Let go as Monsieur Gainsbourg takes you by the hand and walks you through the twisted halls and rooms of his mansion of love. Spooky and exhilarating. Sometimes boardering on strange halloweenish music. Lamenting sappy piano song turned honky tonk break down. Capitan Cook R and B weirdness. Styles and forms of music that would usually not do me right, make me beg for more. Totally moving and manic. Who else can talk through basically an entire album and make it sound this great? I know who can, S.G. can. I love this. This seals my Gainsbourg fanaticism. I'm a Serge addict. Please help yourself and get this.

Voilà un groupe qui arrive avec un premier album excellent et très vivant. Les mélodie entre en tête très rapidemment et vous fredonnerez les paroles simples tout le temps.
J'ai eu la chance de les voir en concert à Lyon (France) en Février, et franchement ça vaut le cout aussi!

If you don't know MICHEL POLNAREFF and consider yourself a FRENCH pop lover,you are missing something.Even if i think that the early songs are his best,i was glad to get this complete overview of his career.POLNAREFF is a precious melodist and his voice is unlike any other FRENCH singer of his generation;it is so delicate in tone that it gets to you after several listenings.He was as influencal musically as GAINSBOURG was,even if their universe was different and SERGE a more prolific composer.The booklet has all the lyrics of the songs which is nice, but no pictures of MICHEL who in his youth had quite a striking ressemblance to CHOPIN.I like the early stuff so much that i made my own cd with those twenty songs because they did not put them in chronogical ... There are some very good Mor-Lam tunes on this CD. When you add this to your audio library, however, you might want to cut out the two comedy cuts. I believe Sublime had a theory that they wanted to represent the genre. That's cool, but the last thing you want to hear when you're relaxing in the bathtub is two out-of-place non-tunes. Don't get me wrong, almost all the cuts on this CD are good songs, but the two comedy bits just get in the way. It's all good after you get rid of those.

Émilie Simon has been one of those lucky finds that i just accidentally stumbled across. This is a stunning example of her talent. Every single song on this album is beyond incredible. The lyrics are beautiful and the beats are original and could only work for someone like her. This album is a hidden gem and i would love to see more of Émilie in the US. Émilie is one of my inspirations and i hope that if i ever get a chance to create my own album i will be able to create mysterious and intense music like her. J'adore elle!!

Well, I'm not sure if they're *all* hits, but they ought to be. I bought this CD on my last trip to France and was amazed as usual by Catherine Ringer's vocal range and style. Some tracks, like Andy (my favorite) are live, some are studio cuts, but they're all 100% pure Rita! Even if you don't understand French, the sheer craziness of Rita Mitsouko will get you up and dancing! Buy it now, you won't be sorry!

I recall not being that greatly impressed with the "best of" os mutantes cd when I purchased it a couple years ago. Perhaps I need to go back to it. This is simply one of the strongest collections I've ever listened to and that's saying something. Highly recommended. Way out there. A delight start to finish.
