I bought Vol 1 for the songs "Act Naturally", "Just As Long As You Love Me" and "Tiger by the Tail", but I've really enjoyed having my ears opened up to tunes like "Under Your Spell Again" and "Waitin' in Your Welfare Line". This CD plus Vol 2 are well worth the purchase.

I'm not a country fan per se, but back in the 60's my Dad kept the radio tuned to WEXT, the country & western station in Connecticut. I'm rediscovering the best C&W of that era including Buck, Merle Haggard and George Jones. Rhino makes it easy to collect the best of the best.

THIS IS A FOUR CD BOX SET WITH INFORMATIVE BOOKLETS IN EACH CD WITH LOTS OF PICTURES AND BIOGRAPHICAL INFO. ADMITTEDEDLY, THE EARLIEST STUFF DOESN'T QUITE "SWING" AS MUCH AS THE LATER RECORDINGS, BUT THE MUSIC IS STILL GREAT AND IT IS INTERESTING TO HEAR HOW THE MUSIC EVOLVES OVER TIME. A BARGAIN PRICE, I HAVE A FEW BOX SETS IN THIS SERIES (THE PROPPER LABEL) AND THEY ARE ALL FANTASTIC PRODUCTIONS AND VALUES. WHAT OFTEN GETS OVERLOOKED AS THAT WESTERN SWING IN MANY WAYS WAS A PRECURSOR TO ROCK AND ROLL, ALONG WITH R&B "JUMP BLUES" (AT LEAST TO MY EARS, ANYWAY).

If you are any type of fan of George Jones, this CD is a must. This CD has his early songs and also has his best songs, "Just a Girl I Used to Know", Window Up Above" She Thinks I Still Care" just to name my top three favorites. George's style and the songs he sings makes him one of a kind. Most of the classic Country songs from days gone by, one knew who the artists were the moment they begin to sing or with just a few notes you knew what song it was going to play. Again, this CD is Ultra Country Gold George Jones. I highly recommend this Classic CD !

When I was a kid, my dad went through a serious Moe Bandy phase. That's basically my only connection. But I kept a havin' a yearnin' for certain songs (Amnesia, Last Bottle and Nobody make love at Home Anymore). Be aware that this music is almost a CHARICATURE of the "Honky Tonk" sound. It's about as classic for that certain era as it gets. You could play it for hipster, urban friends to make fun of Country & Western but I don't; I stand by it--and I am not what you'd call from-country-roots. All said and done, Mr. Bandy sounds like he means it, even though no one could have actually experiened that much cheatin'.

Junior Brown is one of the few true country & western artists left. He is no hat act. He's got a great baritone voice and he can play the absolute 7734 out of his guit steel guitar. Listen to Freeborn Man. He and is backup band (wife on acoustic guitar and drummer) are as tight as bark.

Several months ago I found this old tape and tracked some of the recordings on it...to discover David Ball's Thinkin' Problem. It's a magnificent ride for anyone, anytime but for me it's a gift from a love that will remain with me forever.

I see all the crazy reviews on here giving John the boot cause of re recordings of his own songs from older albums from other record labels.
Whats the Big deal with this people,I mean come on. First off, It's His songs, he's singing them, their all there in 1 convient 2 disk set, which in itself has multiple pluses. Newly updated musical conpositions for some of his works and made for a new generation of fans to enjoy. Harping about this set not being original recordings is kinda like going to 1 of his concerts and saying it's a rip off or something too. It's Him for pete sakes and it sounds better in many cases than the originals.
So Shame on all you reviewers saying that crap about this cd set.

You see what happens when Nashville gets involved,what do they call it murder on music row,this Derailers album Genuine is a complete disaster and not even close to the great albums Reverb Deluxe or Jackpot,no wonder Tony Villanueva left,not the same Buck Owens bakersfield sound,even the rock oriented tunes aren't the same,I've played this cd twice and probably never will again,will the true Derailers come back down to earth where you belong,we'll be waiting.
