This is one of the best CDs of any Kind that I have ever owned. I am really speaking of the tape that I bought of this when it came out. I think I had one of the great evenings of my entire life the second or third time I listened to this on one evening in 1983 or 1984 beside a little lake where I lived in Opa Locka Florida, at a time when i thought things were pretty bad for me, but just listening to this music and these words hit the spot.
In justice to Haggard, this music was recorded more than 22 years ago. Some of the players in the great touring and studio bands that he put together during the late 1970s and the early 1980s are no longer living or have retired from music.

I'm hooked! Sunny loves what she does and it shows. She's a natural. How on earth does she do "If I Could?" She could be an auctioneer in her day job but I'm pretty sure she won't have time for a day job. I look forward to following her performing career.

I bought this cd for my 88-year-old mom. She loves the selection of classic cowboy songs. The sound quality and clarity are great.
Release Date October 18, 1994
I bought Vol 2 for the songs "Big in Vegas" and "Made in Japan", but I've really enjoyed having my ears opened up to tunes like "Above and Beyond" and "Buckaroo". This CD plus Vol 1 are well worth the purchase.
I'm not a country fan per se, but back in the 60's my Dad kept the radio tuned to WEXT, the country & western station in Connecticut. I'm rediscovering the best C&W of that era including Buck, Merle Haggard and George Jones. Rhino makes it easy to collect the best of the best.

The Derailers doing a Buck Owens tribute was as likely-- and as welcome--as kd lang doing a Patsy Kline tribute. The influence of Bakersfield on the Derailers has been evident since their first album in the mid-nineties.
"Under the Influence of Buck" is comprised of twelve Buck Owens originals and, to round out the baker's dozen, "Johnny B. Goode," a tune that Owens frequently covered.
The Derailers take no liberties with Owens' music and they offer nothing new in the way of interpretation. This is as earnest and straight-ahead a tribute as you'll find, a literal reading of the Buck Owens setlist. But whatever the Derailers intentionally lack in innovation and interpretation, they more than compensate for in enthusiasm, ... Read More:

This forty one song Collector's Choice two disc compilation is a winner from the Sheriff,Faron Young singing all his Capitol Hits, and brother is this a good one,I don't know if this is his best, but I have no desire to look around for another,as you listen to Faron singing Willie Nelson's,Hello Walls,Don Gibson's,Sweet Dreams,or Tommy Collins',If You Ain't Lovin' (You Ain't Livin')and there's other notable songs on here such as,Down By The River,Goin' Steady,Back Track and Country Girl, nobody does'em like the Sheriff,Faron Young, this is a collector's item worthy of any country collection.

This is a good set of rowdy songs, with classics by Waylon, Willie, Jessi Colter and the boys, as well as a slew of other folks feudin' like the Hatfields and McCoys... The songs are generally high-calibre, but I agree with other reviews that this collection really stretches its credibility by calling them all "outlaw country" when indeed a hefty chunk of the playlist is really made up of Southern rock and redneck boogie tunes -- Marshall Tucker's "Can't You See", Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' With Disaster" and the Georgia Satellite's "Keep Your Hands To Yourself" are prime examples of Top 40 rock songs that are dubious inclusions in a "country" collection. In the 1970s, the longhairs who were into Willie Nelson might have also been rockin' out to Lynyrd Skynyrd ... Read More:

Having discovered Loretta Lynn's talent a little late in my life I am delighted to say how much I enjoy this collection. The first Loretta cd I bought was Van Lear Rose from 2004 - and I am now hooked. I love the way that her songs tell a story. What a talented singer! I hope to hear some new music from this legendary performer again soon.

If you are reading this, then there is no need to tell you who Hank Williams was, the KING of Honky Tonk country music until his untimely death in the early 50's, at the height of his popularity and at an early age. Here are 24 great Hank Williams songs, you will not be disappointed.
Release Date August 22, 1995
True, Roger Miller wrote some GREAT manic/comic country songs, but his depth as a writer (e.g.: the sadness and truth of a song like "Dang Me")is often overlooked and this is the best existing collection to allow listeners to more fully appreciate the many facets of a truly underestimated talent.
His back catalog is in a sad state of disrepair and has been for years. Buyer beware: numerous widely available budget "Best ofs" are actually re-recordings done in the 80s of classic Miller material. Still Roger Miller, just not the recordings done when his star was shining the brightest.
If you seek prime Miller in single disc form, you'd best seek out Smash Hits on Smash Records and the harder to find Country Tunesmith, a CD reissue of his 1970 ... Read More:
