I came across this as a 'you might also like' for "O Brother, Where Art Thou"..a fantastic soundtrack you must get. This...is nothing like it. It's more like what Pa Ingalls played for Laura in Little House on the Prarie. Not to say that's bad, but it's not what you would expect. Be sure to listen to samples first, to know what you're getting.
Release Date October 27, 1992
We love this CD! Puff the Dragon and Somewhere Over the Rainbow are great! It's nostalgic for me, and fun for my little girl!
Release Date June 23, 1998
Joan Baez has the wrong vocal quality for most of these songs, and the arrangements make little sense. I don't believe one can sing "St. Augustine" worse than Ms. Baez does here, four-square and lifeless, and, gee, if that song screams "Nashville" to an arranger, that person needs another line of work.

One of the last true American Patriots in a dying society. A very talented man and true American. Pity that most people don't know who he is because of what out government did to him. Like JFK but they didn't have to kill him because he wasn't wealthy.

...its the real stuff with the Clancys and Tommy Makem. Its not bubble gum folk music. Its not Peter, Paul and Mary ffs...hehe...I have this album on vinyl. Original copy. I have nearly played it to death since I was a kid. I highly recommend this - NOT for some yuppie St. Patrick's day (ugh!) brunch. But just listen to this anytime. I personally take these guys seriously. But its fun and vivid and youll go places with this one. My favorite songs here are Jug of Punch, Johnny I hardly Knew ye, and Ballinderry- which is sung by Tommy Makem and i promise youll cry...but the tears will be welcomed. Makems voice was/is unmatched!
Its like another world in your ear that leads to your heart and goes into your soul......sound corny?....just buy the CD!!

I listened to this on LP as I was growing up. I longed listen to it again after I moved away from home. It is a great find for those who love vintage folk music.
Release Date September 16, 1991
I knew very little of Joan's voice and talent. My husband selected and purchased this album. What a wonderful discovery I've made. The more I play this album, the more I enjoy it. Joan has her best known songs on this album but it is the heart she puts into all of the songs that show her voice to it's best advantage. Relax, and listen to this exceptional album.

To call this a "Greatest Hits" compilation is stretching the definition of "hit" just a bit, especially given that The Jim Kweskin Jug Band never had what could even be remotely called a "hit single" in North America. So too is declaring them to be "better than The Beatles" as one reviewer so boldly states.
But they were very good at what they did. Which was to take a kazoo and a tambourine (Maria D'Amato, who also did vocals), a clarinet, washboard and guitar (Geoff Muldaur - also a vocalist), a "white lightnin' jug" and washtub bass (Fritz Richmond), a banjo and steel guitar (Bill Keith), and a guitar (Jim Kweskin - also a vocalist) and turn it into a virtual jug band revival in 1963.
The band would stay in business for close to six years, ... Read More:
