I don't have this DVD or the CD by the same name (Singin' In My Soul), but I have seen the program they come from, and my favoite part is the reading by Suzanne Gaither Jennings entitled "Red Wing." This beautiful reading about how families are connected truly does remind us that "We all dance to the tunes we know." It is worth purchasing the DVD just for this reading alone, although Tanya Goodman Sykes rendition of "Redeemed" is lovely, too.

Monte Montgomery is first and formost a guitar player. Yes, he sings and writes songs but its with a Taylor strapped around his neck and fingers flying over the frets that he's at home. With Chris Maresh on bass and Phil Bass on drums, Monte has a backbeat for his aurelly addicting style of play. If Eric Clapton is God then Monte is a demi-god. Rock On!

The 1931 recordings of Skip James are simply among the strangest and most chilling music in recorded history. I first heard some of them as a teenager in the 1980s, after I had already listened to James' younger contemporary Robert Johnson; Johnson's music is equally spooked in terms of lyrical content, but his music at any rate always has a solid rhythmic pulse. James' music was less celebrated (perhaps because, unlike Johnson, he had lived long enough to be rediscovered in the 1960s), but in retrospect it was far more scary. I'm sure this was a fun cd for BB King (and friends)to make. If you have any "soul" you can't sit still to the Heavy D jam. I LOVE EVERY JAM! The Van Morrison cut is the BOMB, Dr. John, ALL of them bring something to the table. U can also "hear" the respect they all have for each other. I'm sure they enjoyed making this CD. I think they did a wonderful job and it's a really a well put together cd. THEY ALL GOT DOWN for BB!!! HAIL TO THE KING!!

After seeing " DESPERATE MAN BLUES " on TV; I found out about this CD & knew that I had to own it. Even though ( as I indicated in a prior review ) I am NOT a 78 rpm Collector; I do know that this CD really is a TREASURE TROVE of some extremely special records that are definitely worth listening to. Kudos to JOE BUSSARD for being the superb Collector that he so obviously is & for putting this incredible Collection together !!!......My only question is ( as other reviewers have also inquired )......JOE; HAVING SOME AWARENESS OF THE EXTENT OF YOUR COLLECTION.....WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO FOLLOW UP WITH ANOTHER CD LIKE THIS ?????
