I really appreciate customer reviews that assist me in making the right buying decisions. I don't write many reviews; but as a music fan and collector, I'm compelled to protect others from wasting their money on less than rewarding recordings. Here, I join the small minority of reviewers whom have tried to warn you about the lackluster substance of this product. I've been so impressed by other Wilson recordings, but just not this one. So if you're considering buying this or another Wilson recording, then I recommend you buy the other. I agree the mix here is extremely muddy, with the low frequencies pushed way outside the scope of what is normal. I mean, I like bass too, but this mix is just not smart. This is a great collection that could be improved through a few substitutions (I would have chosen Johnny Adams' "Reconsider Me" and Irma Thomas'"I Done Gone Over It", instead of the ones The Shout Factory made) but that's nitpicking. It's a great collection, it sounds great and a wide range of New Orleans music is represented. Well done.

some material is repetitive but overall a must for any blues listener or any other music listener. the nuances of his playing develope deeper with each listening. hooker, buddy guy, b.b. king--what a great cache of music we have at our eartips to listen to.

I'm sure this was a fun cd for BB King (and friends)to make. If you have any "soul" you can't sit still to the Heavy D jam. I LOVE EVERY JAM! The Van Morrison cut is the BOMB, Dr. John, ALL of them bring something to the table. U can also "hear" the respect they all have for each other. I'm sure they enjoyed making this CD. I think they did a wonderful job and it's a really a well put together cd. THEY ALL GOT DOWN for BB!!! HAIL TO THE KING!!

John lee seemed like he had the blues his hole life.Maybe he did maybe he didn't. He played the hole blues man thing to a T. He seemed like the coolest of all cats when he was up on stage. That's because he was. The people bought it hook line and sinker as they should.I have heard,lived and felt the blues since I was 8 yrs.old. I can totally relate to what he was doing and singing about back then and now.Hookers blues and boogie music is and will always be timeless. That to me is the conection I have with him.Pure blues, no nonsense music that hits you like a ton of bricks. This CD does just that and more.

Johnny Winter has turned his back on rock-n-roll. All he plays live and all he has recorded for the past 20-something years has been traditional blues based. Like many other guitar greats of his period,( Clapton,Page etc) Johnny Winter may feel it is the ultimate homage and tribute to the black blues masters of the Delta to keep to strict blues form nowadays instead of the mutated white boy hybrid that 60's and 70's rockers Cream, Led Zeppelin made their bones on. Don't misunderstand. There are blues on this excellent live album, "Sweet Papa John" being the most distinctive. But as for balls out, boogie rock with a Southern but never lazy bent, "Captured Live" is a fine if not the BEST example of this basically extinct genre.I love the blues, but I can't believe any artist ... Brother to the Blues

Tab Benoit is by far my favorite blues artist that I have seen perform on many an occassion. I own every one of his cds and when this special project cd came out I didn't hesitate to buy a copy. As stated in other reviews the title is somewhat misleading but that made no difference to me. I absolutely love the album and it shows another side of Tab that you might not otherwise get to see although he does play some of these songs during his live performances as well. If you have never seen him play your really missing out.
