What else can be said? Read the other reviewers comments, as they sound very seasoned on whats good. I, for one, have been into the blues for a few years and bought this CD.
Awesome stuff!! Makes me want to smoke a fat cigar and sit on my back patio with shades on at night time. Er, well.....a really good compilation.
Buy it and you won't be disappointed.

The temptation here is to use all sorts of Swamp/Americana cliches extolling what a great CD this is ("a modern swamp classic,etc."). Instead, as one who would buy a CD of Bobby singing his tax-returns, I will say, go out and buy this album now!!! You'll dig it.

The first track stuck with me and I have never forgotten the words: "Nobody loves me but my mother , and she could be jivin' too."This album is not typical of BB King but I believe it os one that new listeners should try as it really does give you a feel ofthe blues but with a different tilt . It has been a favourite of mine for almost 30 years and I still want to play it over and over again and now can on CD .

Black Magic seemed to be another stepping stone to an extremely promising blues career. The young man, having had the stereotypical hard upbringing that seems to be a blues artist's rite of passage, was on his way to stardom based on very successful appearances at several blues festivals.
But Black Magic, instead of being part of his beginning, ended up being his epitaph. Sam Maghett died of a heart attack in December, 1969 at the age of 32, leaving much promise unfulfilled and lots of thoughts of what could have been.
This record was a very good followup to his phenomenal first record, West Side Soul. His playing and vocals were very good on this record, and while overall it is not up to the extraordinarily high accomplishment ... Read More:

Johnny Winter has turned his back on rock-n-roll. All he plays live and all he has recorded for the past 20-something years has been traditional blues based. Like many other guitar greats of his period,( Clapton,Page etc) Johnny Winter may feel it is the ultimate homage and tribute to the black blues masters of the Delta to keep to strict blues form nowadays instead of the mutated white boy hybrid that 60's and 70's rockers Cream, Led Zeppelin made their bones on. Don't misunderstand. There are blues on this excellent live album, "Sweet Papa John" being the most distinctive. But as for balls out, boogie rock with a Southern but never lazy bent, "Captured Live" is a fine if not the BEST example of this basically extinct genre.I love the blues, but I can't believe ... "Crucial Harmonica Blues"
Alligator Records ALCD 115
Big Walter Horton and Carey Bell continue the protégé and mentor tradition on "Have Mercy". Blues harp doesn't get any better than that. Under-rated Bell appropriately adorns the disc's cover. With one `whew', you will recognize the brown jug, country blues of Sonny Terry on "Sonny's Whoopin' The Doop". Junior Wells could combine funk, grease and sweat like no other. Experience it on "Broke and Hungry". James Cotton's "Superharp" remains one of the best harp-blowin' tunes ever, while fiery Carey Bell shows why he now reigns as best harpist/vocalist on "Lonesome Stranger".
Do these artists and songs qualify as Crucial Harmonica Blues? You're damn right they ... Read More:

One of my first exposures to the world of Chicago-style blues, after a steady diet of country-style Delta blues, was the Rolling Stones' version of the Willie Dixon classic Little Red Rooster back in the early 1960's. I thought that was a song to beat all songs and it had nothing to do its allegorical nature, you know, about sex. What, moreover, capped it for me the fact that it was originally banned in Boston- from the radio airwaves of the times. Naturally that made this teenager want to hear it even more.
All this is by way of saying-yes; the Stones did a great version of that song but if you really want it heard then you must go to the master- Howlin' Wolf. That big gravelly-voiced man who, in still pictures that I have seen of him as well as film seems to ... Read More:

Anyone who has listened to a Roomful of Blues CD knows that their music is hard to classify. That doesn't matter to the band's members. All they are concerned with is whether it sounds good, whether you can dance to it, and whether you can feel it. With suave horns that swing off the big band dancehall floors of the '30s and '40s, Raisin' A Ruckus is one of Roomful's most swinging CDs. Since 1967, the multiple award-winning group's combination of swing, rock `n' roll, jump, blues, and soul has earned it just praise. Forty-six band members have come and gone since then without a negative impact on the band's exciting music.
This disc features a new bass player and a new drummer on this disc, but the most obvious newcomer is singer Dave Howard who replaces Mark ... Read More:

John lee seemed like he had the blues his hole life.Maybe he did maybe he didn't. He played the hole blues man thing to a T. He seemed like the coolest of all cats when he was up on stage. That's because he was. The people bought it hook line and sinker as they should.I have heard, lived and felt the blues since I was 8 yrs.old. I can totally relate to what he was doing and singing about back then and now.Hookers blues and boogie music is and will always be timeless. That to me is the conection I have with him.Pure blues, no nonsense music that hits you like a ton of bricks. This CD does just that and more.
