I first only heard a part of this recording, on 'Lone Star 92.5 FM, but I knew it was special - I love blues. There isn't enough space to explain what I went through, to locate this particular recording,...because I was informed that this was a LIVE PERFORMANCE!, and it is not known if saleable copy even exists. As I say, eventually, I found it at AMAZON, and it was all that I expected....and I expected it to be EXTRA GOOD!!!
This is not the first time that I found a difficult-to-fine item, at AMAZON!

It never ceases to amaze me how well Kubek and King work together - the chemistry and cohesiveness are definitely there. The record consists of mostly original material, with some REALLY fun tunes!

Most songs sound upbeat (although lyrics are pure blues) and provides SUPER driving music. The songs are crafted to be pretty easy to understand and get into, with catchy rhythm patterns and smooth, no-drama vocals by Bnois King. The blues are 100% Texas.

The rock aspect of this record is also strong, and Kubek delivers some smoking solos, living up to his name. Bnois King contributes a totally different tone, and it's fun to listen to the two approaches combined.

You can always find 1 or 2 songs that you wanted to have on any "collection" Cd. This one is also in that class due to the amount songs in his career. However with the selection you get there is so much to enjoy. I can feel Burbon Street from my car here in Jersey.

I owned this previously and I am glad to have it again. It will teach about the blues from their inception at the turn of the 20th century to the present day. All the classic songs that were later done by UK acts are here as well. If you can find it used, it is a better bargain because there is a lot here that is "filler not killer" but if you want to get a blues education, buy this collection.

If you're new to Robert Johnson, start here. The Complete Recordings box is all fine and good, but this disc has (drastically) better sound quality, better sequencing, and more historical value (if you're into that sort of thing). It's also cheaper, and less bulky. Plus, it cherrypicks most of Johnson's best recordings. Of course, Robert Johnson never recorded a bad song, but these sixteen (seventeen, if you count the previously unreleased alternate take of "Traveling Riverside Blues" that was discovered after the release of the box set) are the cream of the crop. My only complaint is the absence of "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom," which has long been one of my favorite blues songs, but that's just a nitpick. This record really is the bee's knees.

I love Buddy Guy, his falsetto voice, his guitar tone, his mellow pickin', his frenzied shreddin', it's all here too! The songs are few, but long and let him stretch out and wear it out! This was his first solo endeavor and it's totally raw and rockin'! I listen to it everyday! Get all his stuff, it's eclectic from acoustic blues to psychedelic rock, he's the coolest!
