Sure, some of the songs are not their best work but after thinking I would never hear another new Verve song after the breakup I'm thrilled to have this CD! As is typically the case with the Verve, and after a few listenings to this CD free on AOL's beta music site, the songs grew on me and I couldn't wait to get the CD to listen to in the car. The more you listen to this collection of songs the more you will like them! Thank you Verve!
Now....if only Zeppelin would reunite and put out a new album (Jason Bonham on drums of course).....

Once again I feel compelled to comment on Emmylou's music. When I first saw this disk I read various reviews here whining that this album is a "downer" and the like. I smiled to myself and bought it without a second thought. I would have bought it no matter what the reviews said. Yes, Emmylou sings about pain, but she also sings about redemption and perseverance, the dawn that follows the darkness. Anyway, what price do you put on music that brings tears to your eyes?
But I am writing just to comment on one track from this disk. "All That You Have Is Your Soul", a song that did not grab me when I heard the author's version two decades ago, is rescued here and made Emmylou's own. The song includes the lines: "hunger only for a taste ... Read More:

Duffy (originating from Wales) has seemingly come out of nowhere with this album, inviting obvious comparisons to other recent Brit-girl invasions of the US like Amy Winehouse and Adele.
"Rockferry" (10 tracks. 38 min.) starts off with the Motown-sounding title track (and first UK single) and the album rolls on from there, with "Warwick Avenue" (3rd UK single), a very nice tune. The girl has the singing chops, no question about it, check out the almost a-cappella "Syrup & Honey". One of the highlights of the album is of course "Mercy" (2nd UK single), which is finding airplay on US mainstream radio stations. In all, the album flows by effortlessly and sounds great from start to finish. Other highlights include a great "Serious" and the ... Read More:

i have every beach boys record. i love the beach boys. there is nothing i'd like more than to have one or two more beach boys songs to listen to and cherish. i wanted this record to be great. so many bad records are released every year, we all need new stuff to play and of which we can be proud. that being said, there is not a single song on this record i'll continue to listen too. yes, it sounds like the beach boys. yes the backround vocals sound like the real thing. yes his voice has lost it quite a bit. but that's not the problem for me. the question is simply will i keep listening to this cd or will i rely entirely on the beach boys back catalog instead? yes, we can all feel good saying lots of positive things about this record, but it doesn't matter ... Has some great songs. Love tracks 4, 5, and 6. I've had this CD on rotation in my car since it came out. Just don't get tired of it. Highly recommend getting the whole cd, rather than buying individual songs.

One Kind Favor (2008, Geffen) B.B. King's twenty-fourth studio album. ***1/2
Long hailed as the "King of the Blues," B.B. King is back with an array of blues covers. There's nothing out of the ordinary and his style hasn't changed much, and what's surprising is that even at eighty-two years old, his signature voice doesn't sound weathered at all. It's a bit of a slow-starter, as One Kind Favor eases in with the jazz-flavored "See That My Grave is Kept Clean." The most invigorating and soulful moments don't come until the second act, really opening up with "The World is Going Wrong" and "Blues Before Sunrise." The ensuing songs are equally rattling and rollicking, especially "Backwater Blues" which features King's best and most convincing vocal performance ... Read More:

I'm not normally a country music fan, but I heard Sugarland on a TV show and decided to buy their newest album. I wasn't disappointed. It is a fun, upbeat, foot stomping CD. I highly recommend it.
