Well, the first unmixed Kandi compilation after Mark Doyle's departure was always going to be tough...
At first glance, Disco Kandi 05.05 has lost pretty much all of the quirks that made Hed Kandi so unique. Gone is the sexy girl on a beautiful background, replaced with a barely amateur and totally lifeless graphic. I have no idea what's going on in the background, but it's boring, and the paisley pattern looks very dodgy. The sleeve notes make it look like the design changes were deliberate, but we all know they were forced on them. Not their fault, but they could at least be honest.
The tracklisting on the reverse is simple, which is not necessarily bad, but there is a lot of white space. Also, the huge "53" (to indicate ... Read More:

I had heard Outlander's "The Vamp" before, and couldn't find it anywhere else, so I found it buried in the "Various Artists" section of the Techno shelf and bought it. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the disc. Sure, it all sounds dated (what do you expect by a CD subtitled "Classic to the Core"???) but there are some truly good songs that aren't cheesy and outdated. Joey Beltram's "Energy Flash" is a great song, subtle yet intense at the same time. "The Vamp" is very catchy in the way it builds, and "Roll It Up/Let's Do It" is just great in its raw energy. But the two highlights of the disc are Genaside II's "Narra Mine" (far, far better than the Armand Van Helden ... Read More:

A surprisingly perceptive Amazon.com review gets it right: Andrew Weatherall's "Nine O'Clock Drop" is a far superior compilation of cutting edge late 70s/early 80s music. "Machine Soul" is a bunch of tracks, many individually good, with too many previously released on innumerable other compilations; as an "odyssey" it's a dud.

Not only is this a well made and produced cd, it also has to have to of the more interesting music i've heard in quiet a while. It's from 1996 but that doesn't make it dated at an (downward spiral still sounds great a decade later) To the commenter who said the sogs sound the same, it may be because some songs on this cd are remixes and appear twice. A great starting point to get into a different kind of music.

"Get Ready for This" is 2 Unlimited's first album. This contains there first two worldwide hits "Get Ready for This" and the even satisfying "Twilight Zone". The other tracks of the album are just as fabulous as the hits. This groups' music is strictly recommended to electronic dance fans. This is techno music at its best, Anita and Ray are excellent musicians. I also recommend: Acen-"75 Minuites", Amber-"This Is Your Night", Bananarama-"Ultra Violet", Crystal Waters-"Crystal Waters", Culture Beat-"Inside Out", Kristine W,-"Land of the Living", Madonna-"Ray of Light", Madison Avenue-"Polyester Embassy", Real McCoy-"Hey Now", Traci Lords-"1,000 Fires", and Rozalla-"Everybody's Free", "Look No Further"& "Don't Go Lose It Baby".
