Once in My life (the 90's to be accurate) I listened to nothing but hip-hop. That period is over a long while ago, and lot's of the albums I owned I couldn't listen to ever again! One of the great exceptions is the debut of Wu-Tang Clan, that really holds up well more than ten years later. What I really liked about their music, and still does, is not only their quirky idea of sampling sound-bits from chop-sockey films. It was even more their minimalistic, raw and kinda gritty sound. Most of the tracks were made of only one small sample and a drum beat. And all of the rappers are good, and could deliver some surprising kicking lyric. Check tracks like 'Tearz', 'Protect Ya Neck' and 'Clan in Da Front', that's it! Just forget the latest flops from ... Read More:

It's pretty trite to go on and on about how an R&B singer has "sass" or "attitude". I don't need to tell you that Imani has an attitude that'd make you think thrice before crossing her. In contrast to that, though, judging by the feel-good vibe that emanates from most of her music -- nevermind how caustic the lyrics -- you can tell her main thing is having a good time and tossing aside useless inhibitions with a hearty "Screw it!"
It's not often that I give a largely electronic album this high of praise, but it's certainly deserving of it. I enjoy having these tunes play on repeat in my head -- and Imani's words and delivery make me actually think. The heart, mind, and BOOTY are all appealed to here. That's right. I just said booty.

I can't think of any other hip hop group or solo artists that grabs me like the roots. I was sold on the roots when I heard and saw the seed video. Went to the store and picked up things Fall Apart. After that I can barely listen to anything else besides my reggae.
The Roots (and guests) are the most under rated, intelligent, real, creative group out there. The issues they touch on are not dark to me as some people say. But in my opinion "REAL" issues that need attention. I can't see how anybody can hate on any of their joints.
The thing that took me awhile to realize is that the way they number all their tracks means something. They're moving forward not back. Which I interpret as nothing is going to sound the same. It's all original. ... Read More:
