This doesn't hold a candle to Check Your Head or Paul's Boutique. There are some decent tracks, but lyrically this was a huge slide for them. It just sounds forced and there is a lot of mediocre filler...

Buy one of those two albums first (CYH or PB), then get Ill Communication and Licensed to Ill. This album is better than 5 boroughs but thats about it...

As a collective whole, Mary J Blige's "My Life" is incomplete. Why then give this album 5 stars? Because the good overweighs the bad. There are enough songs on this cd to satisfy your Mary J Blige fix. Even though Mary herself claims she was in her "addiction" at the time of this recording, it still showcases brilliance in the r and b music world. In a perfect world, Mary J Blige's "My Life" would be:

2. U Bring Me Joy
3. I"m The Only Woman
4. My Life
5. I Never Wanna Live Without u
6. I'm Goin' Down
7. Be Happy

never thought i would say this but i wish i had gotten the "dirty version"
instead
some of the songs dont sound right
especially glamorous

take your broke broke home instead of broke a++ home

it did sound wrong

i normally dont mind clean versions

this time i did

i may get the dirty version just to hear it in its original context

overall its a great cd

I remember when the only Wu Tang albums I owned were; 36 Chambers, Method Man's Tical, and GZA's Liquid Swords, and Beneath The Surface. I was aware of how big their discography is (when combined together is roughly around 45 albums)and was a little intimidated to go far into it. Eventually I had no choice. It got to the point where ALL I listened to were these albums (especially Liquid Swords) and I needed more. When you only own the few that I did, and know you're gonna end up getting most, if not all of their albums (including solo) there's several roads to take to travel further. wow first off, the record company tries to send the world a false sense of hope with bizzy on the album and everyone thought he was back with the band, but no these are outtakes and you can really tell. "nation of thugs" is a standout that would fit on any album and "young thugs" was a decent song. Alot of these tracks feel weak and uninspired and it really was a disappointment after "strength and loyalty." All in all, Bizzy did come back with still creepin, the new bone album (Bone brothers 4 really), but skip this, because the bone thugs are being exploited for money.

Come on dawg...nuff said. Jay is spittin so hard on these tracks and ya trippin like he aint got flow. As far as goin hard on an album, this might be tops. Not his best cd (Reasonable Doubt), but if ya wanna recognize lyrics then this is it. He also came hard (no homo) on American Gangster.

Please sit down and listen to the flow again if u had any doubts the first time!!!

K'naan's "Dusty Foot Philosopher" is on that real tip. Kid grew up in a warzone and caught the last flight to Canada before the airport shut down. Since then he's been rocking the house. Saw him live with Stephen Marley last year and he killed it! Glad the cd is finally available in the states.

I got to hear this entire album played today on an online broadcast for a small radio station. Coming in in the middle, like the first listeners to Orson Welles's "War of the World's" broadcast, I must confess that I initially thought the fictional story of "Sister Fatima" -- over-layed like a local DJ's mix of news onto the album tracks -- to be a genuine retrospective of some real events -- that's how accurate the story was to similar aspects of our real-life world, at least in parts. (I caught on when the Governor who backed her execution in the storyline actually cared when he got caught).

I love Jill Scott. She has one of the best voices around. This cd starts off promising but then bogs down quickly. It's not her but her choice of material/collaborators. After the third song where the hip hip/rapper guy takes the lead and she is left to support with breezy, breathy vocals, I wanted to scream. She is the talent here and she needs to be the focal point.
