I have to admit when I first heard this album I was blown away. I still have my same copy with the black disc. I will say that this album is a more commercial version of Reasonable Doubt. Even though it has a more commercial feel to it, its still an excellent album. This was slated to be Jay-Z's last album so I guess he wanted to go out with a bang and The Black Album does just that. It's similar to Reasonable Doubt in that he has some very personal songs on it like December 4th (great song) and Lucifer (a personal favorite of mine). However, it still shows Jay-Z's evolution as a more mainstream rap artist. This could be good or bad depending on what type of hip hop fan you are. Like a good number of folks, who had to go through a break-up and listened to "Sleeping Alone" and went, ohh this dude knows what its about!!
but beyond that i listened to the very rawness of the lyrics and how practical they were, think everlast in that aspect delivers the goods on this one, granted that its not as good as whitey ford. But i feel that this album does deserve a good time on the CD player, it will hook you on atleast two numbers, irrespective of which genre you belong to.

Recommend. Good CD overall.

Prior to purchasing this CD I already had hopes that Jaheim was part of a trend away from Hip Hop and Rap and back to R&B. The Making of a Man confirms my hopes. As a person of 60 years old I found the music very disturbing in the beginning, but to make his point it had to be. As the songs progress one can hear the evolution of a thug to a man of principle. Brilliant..one of the best concept albums since Happy People. I pray that he continues to lead our youth back to real music...

This CD is classic in hip-hop music; a must own for any person who thinks they know what true hip-hop is.

Nas sets up a rise from rags to riches trying to take his community with him. The lyrical complexity of this album is unheard of, incredible clarity and speed over simple 1-2 beats. Nas' manifesto... Anything below 10 stars just shows how many people don't understand this album. One love

The 2nd album from A Tribe Called Quest, The Low End Theory is definitely their best album as well one of the greatest albums to come from the East Coast. One of the reasons for that is this album combindes both hip hop and jazz perfectly, especially since jazz bassist Ron Carter is featured on here. Another reason why its a classic album is because of the lyrical ability of Q Tip and Phife Dawg. Phife especially showcases his skils as an mc. The subject matter is also more serious than their debut. One of my favorite cd's! Just as good as his previous cd "Be". He is a great hip hop artist and lyrist. If you looking for music with quality that makes you think this is the cd. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
