I like Stan Rogers as a singer. That is how I wound up with this CD. I expected music. I got some but it was sparse. The CD consists of two radio plays produced for broadcast in Canada and inspired by songs of Stan Rogers. He provides the music to go along with the plays.

Both of the plays look at issues of human cruelty and perception. They also deal with love. I cannot say that either is very enjoyable but both are well done, engaging and even haunting. The music just adds to the haunting quality.

"Harris and the Mare" talks of a friendship between an old curmudgeon and a pacifist. The pacifist is finally moved to violence in defense of the love of his life.

This CD compiles several 1969 Philly soul radio air checks featuring a leading deejay during this time and place - Sonny Hopson. Listening to Sonny nimbly "rap" between songs shows in part how today's less interesting hip hop collective got its inspiration. As a bonus, the disc samples top soul songs of the day, some known and some not so well known, but cool sounding nonetheless, and includes great ads done by Sonny(check out Sonny talking about the upcoming "muscular discrophy" telethon) and top soul stars of the day (James Brown for example).

The only downside to this cd is that it one track - you can't pin point your favorite parts and are forced to listen to the entire program as one piece. That being said, having this disc on ... Read More:

I have 7 Marilyn Monroe films, but this CD set contains a lot more songs than those which these films feature. There are some great songs on this CD, and MM sings them very, very well. I do miss the male chorus singing "ooooooh!" in the Tiffany's finale of the "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" film version of the song. My musical tastes (and film tastes) have gone retro of late. Diana Krall, Stacy Kent. And now Marilyn Monroe. As for the sound quality of the CD, it's a bit soft on the intro to the above-mentioned track, but quickly improves. All in all, the quality is acceptable, and it's great listening. There are some really quirky songs, like "Specialisation," which I simply adore with its occasional operatic outbreak. ... Read More:
