I'm not much of a Western fan, but the collection contained a "Tales of the Texas Rangers" episode, so I bought it. I was not disappointed. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised. The "Texas Rangers" story was, of course, a 20th Century detective story, but it had a Western setting, and Ranger Jase Pearson got to ride his trusty horse Charcoal as he tracked the bad guy through the mesquite. "Texas Rangers" was a little out of place, but not much.
The other stories easily divided themselves into three types:
[1] Juvenile Westerns: "The Lone Ranger", "Hopalong Cassidy", and "The Cisco Kid". All three were boyhood heroes of mine, and the stories proved quite enjoyable. ... Read More:

Alice Faye, while not well known today, was a very very famous singer in the thirties. She made her name on radio in 1933, then transferred to films in 1934 and by 1940, she was the top female box office star in America. While her voice was untrained and natural, she may have been the first white singer to popularise the husky contralto. At the height of her film career, song writers like Irving Berlin and Harry Warren wrote specifically for her and her picture on the cover of sheet music was an almost guarantee of volume sales.
This CD contains all but one of her commercial recordings from 1933 to 1937, plus a few tracks lifted from films from 1939 to 1943, after she stopped recording commercially. Among the latter is Faye's exquisite rendition ... Read More:

Long before the cast of Monty Python donned women's apparel and uttered long-winded absurdities in affected upper registers, British cabaret comic Douglas Byng was portraying old Egyptian "Queens," messy old mermaids, and worm-weary trees. This collection covers 1933 to 1938, nearly his entire recording career, save for an oustanding retrospective LP in 1963 on the Ace of Clubs label. Byng was profoundly gifted at wordplay, and, if these recordings are any indication, he was a dynamic and charismatic performer. Few comics of any type register so well on recordings; it's as if his humor was designed for the 78-rpm disc. For those (like myself!) who aren't used to this brand of British humor, it's best to start with the hilarious "I'm a Mummy," ... Read More:

While I'm not thrilled with the cover, I so enjoyed hearing some tunes that I hadn't heard Alice Faye sing before and several that I do have on other CD's, I can't go lower than 5 stars for lovely Alice. What a voice! Since there are a few songs from 42nd Street, you get a glimpse of what she could have accomplished at Warners Bros, if things had been different. Since you're told from the title, the selections are from screen and radio, the sound isn't studio sharp, but Alice Faye is always quality listening.

For those interested in the ephemeral of Marilyn Monroe's spotty musical career(and more besides), it may be tough to beat this two disc collection. It still doesn't include her hillbilly rendition of "That Old Black Magic" from "Bus Stop"(which may be lost by now), but it has just about every other vocal side, plus a Lux radio spot, a very funny motor oil commercial, an extended(and a tiny bit excruciating)Jack Benny sketch, and another elongated bit with Martin & Lewis. Comes with a great booklet of photos and interesting minutia.
