CD-Charts > Music > Radio Shows
by: Marilyn Monroe

Release Date March 08, 2005
For those interested in the ephemeral of Marilyn Monroe's spotty musical career(and more besides), it may be tough to beat this two disc collection. It still doesn't include her hillbilly rendition of "That Old Black Magic" from "Bus Stop"(which may be lost by now), but it has just about every other vocal side, plus a Lux radio spot, a very funny motor oil commercial, an extended(and a tiny bit excruciating)Jack Benny sketch, and another elongated bit with Martin & Lewis. Comes with a great booklet of photos and interesting minutia.

CD-Charts > Music > Radio Shows
by: Alice Faye

Release Date July 11, 2000
Alice Faye, while not well known today, was a very very famous singer in the thirties. She made her name on radio in 1933, then transferred to films in 1934 and by 1940, she was the top female box office star in America. While her voice was untrained and natural, she may have been the first white singer to popularise the husky contralto. At the height of her film career, song writers like Irving Berlin and Harry Warren wrote specifically for her and her picture on the cover of sheet music was an almost guarantee of volume sales.

This CD contains all but one of her commercial recordings from 1933 to 1937, plus a few tracks lifted from films from 1939 to 1943, after she stopped recording commercially. Among the latter is Faye's exquisite ... Read More:

by: Original Soundtrack

Release Date November 27, 2006
I can't believe that Elizabeth would give the Old House to Willy. Even though he was forced by Barnabus to restore much of it. The only problem with this 2CD set is that it whets the listener's appetite for future adventures and it's the only one so far. Angelique now living at Collinwood. I didn't see that coming at all. Real fun.

The Very Best of Orson Welles

CD-Charts > Music > Radio Shows
by: Orson Welles

Release Date July 10, 2001
Good value with Dracula as added bonus. Orson Welles broadcast was a classic.
Shame my original purchase was lost and was sent several weeks later.
A bit unfair of Amazon to refund & recharge my card to process my replacement which cost more than original purchase due to change in exchange rate! ;-(

CD-Charts > Music > Radio Shows
by: The Residents

Release Date November 07, 2006
I am a big enough fan of the Guys With Eyes to not just drool like a puppy with its bell rung when there is a new recording to devour, but to listen and look critically, to see from where they have come and where they are going, to see if their output furthers their art, or if it falls complacently back on previous endeavor.

Unfortunately, I find this recording to be very much of the last sentiment.

The Residents have a long-established discography of pure brilliance, so it is not surprising to find the occasional dull attempt, but this one in particular bothers me in several different directions. For one, this is a second recent attempt at narrative, the other being Tweedles!, but both seem to very much spring from the poor ... Read More:

The Bickersons/The Bickersons Fight Back

by: Don Ameche & Frances Langford

Release Date June 10, 2003
As a young girl, my parents introduced me to the comedy of The Bickersons. We've enjoyed the albums for about 40 years now. My teenage daughters love them too. I bought 2 copies of the CD, one for my Dad and one for me. Clean, good, hilarious fun!

CD-Charts > Music > Radio Shows
by: David Kogan, Radio Spirits

Release Date April 02, 2002
I was expecting real mysteries, AKA detective stories. While these shows were cleaned up nicely and all, I just don't care for the sci fi/supernatural bent everything I listened to had. It also would've been nice to have had a bit more indexing on the CDs; as it is, only the beginnings of the stories are indexed.
