The CD is a perfect example of someone who has all the resources behind them, money, name recognition etc. There's just one problm. SHE CAN'T SING!!!!!! Do yourself a favor & skip this one. If you are looking for some new(old school) vibes, check out Joss Stone or Jill Scott.

Terrence Howards debut album SHINE THROUGH IT goes against the grain of what you would expect Howard to record. Howard's brand of R&B is mixed with influences of jazz, pop, folk, and singer-songwriter elements. The result isn't always fully developed, but SHINE THROUGH IT allows for a couple of truly compelling moments. One strong point, regardless of weaker material, is the acoustic instrumentation. There is nothing like a good album that uses live instrumentation.
SHINE THROUGH IT's first couple of tracks are all "fire". "Love Makes You Beautiful" is one of the most beautiful examples of orchestration in pop music I have heard for a while. The string bass gives this track an inherent jazz feel while the acoustic piano, acoustic piano, ... Read More:

She just keeps getting better. Really enjoyed the music. It mellowed me out. I listen as I am going to work and coming home. A real pleasure.

George Duke's recording on his own BPM label have proven to be his most artistically successful period since his heyday on Epic Records. His recordings for the label so far Face the Music and Duke have been funky and original outings with Duke and his "merry men of jazzy funk" doing what they do best. And besides someone needed to lead the pack in offering a needed alternative to the Weather Channel-like "smooth jazz" that was everywhere for a couple decades, and Duke always did it with bells on. On this recording Duke assembled a group of vocalists he's worked with over the years from cousin Rachell Farrell to Howard Hewett. The great part is they provide the perfect backround and never intrude on the groove. The beauty part is along with his newer ... Read More:

It's been a long time since I've really let a new artist into my orbit, and I know Amos Lee is not exactly new, but I think he's amazing. He blends some street-funk sensibilities with folk-pop-rock, and I listen to Last Days at the Lodge over and over. The lyrics are intelligent, his voice is warm and inviting, even reminding me of Al Green on songs like "I Wanna Know". I highly recommend this album, and all of Amos Lee's work.
