The Animals: Eric Burdon on vocals, Chas Chandler on bass, John Steel on drums, Hilton Valentine on guitar, Alan Price and Dave Rowberry on organ and piano. And this group made some of the best blues rock music of the 1960s. This CD includes works recorded in 1964 and 1965.
It starts out with the classic "House of the Rising Sun." This is rawly sung and sung in a compelling manner by Eric Burdon. He had one of the truest blues voices of the 1960s among younger singers. The organ of Alan Price adds a really neat element to this song, with foreboding lines such as "[this house] has been the ruin of many a poor boy, and Lord I'm one."
I also enjoy their effort at singing Chuck Berry. His "Around and Around" is a wonderful ... Read More:

The 2003 Rhino collection 'The Very Best of the Grateful Dead' is the set to own if you're a casual fan. You get 17 classic Dead songs, and for a relatively low price as well.
This set is very enjoyable. You get all of the songs a casual Deadhead will need. 'Sugar Magnolia,' 'Casey Jones,' 'Truckin,' 'Touch Of Grey,' and a great live version of 'One More Saturday Night.' This is classic rock at it's finest.
But, there are some key songs missing. 'China Doll' and the underrated classic 'And We Bid You Goodnight' should be on this set. Rhino probably should have made this a two CD set. But this is still a great set for anybody that wants a nice, single-disc collection.
And, the sound quality is amazing. Rhino did an excellent ... Read More:

Workingman's dead a true classic from the Dead, could be classified a companion to American Beauty, both released in 1970,Workingman's Dead first, could've easily been released as a double album,Workingman contains a mixture of different genres, blues, country, funk, and rock, yet in a subdued way, listen to,Uncle John's Band,a definite classical touch and the Dead's best weapon of course are the tight harmonies flowing consistently within each song,as so do the strong lyrics. Jerry Garcia's steel guitar also stands out on,Dire Wolf,Garcia,a fine steel player, shows off his stuff, playing steel on C.S.N.& Y.'s,Teach Your Children Well, and could've stood to be more defined on American Beauty. Easy Wind,is a catchy tune that would fit well on a Hendrix album, and other notable songs ... Read More:

First off, Supernatural is not *just* a Santana record. It's more of a mix between Santana, his band, his collaborators and sometimes the producers. It's really a great sounding record all around, and despite it's mainstream trappings, I found pretty much all the songs good (not awesome or great, mind you). I'll tackle the album in it's two different faces: The more traditional (though this one is far from the traditional Latin music it seems) songs (give or take), or the less traditional, latin-pop songs.
Santana and his band of percussion instruments, horns, keyboards, the works are probably the best, and Carlos Santana makes his guitar sing and never wastes a note. The very first note on (Da Le) Yaleo hits you like a refreshing drink of water, enough to make ... Read More:

Good movie - songs are from the Viet Nam era and the movie depicts the aftermath of college students of that era. I am one of them.

When I went to the music store and bought this cd, i was excited to hear the sound that everybody was in love with for 40 years. I threw it in my cd player and liked it but thought it sounded a little poppy and not really like the other psychedelic rock bands i had heard. As always i opened up the cd case and pulled out the artwork and the first words i read were "This is not the cd that has been around for 40 years." I kinda freaked out because automatically i labeled the cd i had just bought as junk. So I read a little bit more and realized that this is how the doors were "Supposed to sound." I mean it did sound alright, but if everyone fell in love with a different sound, maybe its not how "the doors" were supposed to sound. Being that it was my first doors cd i went online and listened ... Read More:

Like another reviewer said, there's a lot of fluffy nonsense on the first side that just spoils the album. I don't know how anyone can rate Higher and higher highly; it's not a proper song and it sounds quite too corny. Floating is another song which sounds like something on a children's soundtrack. Beyond never goes anywhere. I never thought is a great song, but at one minute length it's hard to enjoy it.
Eyes of a child and Out and in are the only songs I personally can listen to by this point. Sun is still shining sounds like ridiculous hippy nonsense and comes at the end of three great songs to spoil the mood.
That leaves us with four undeniable classics: Candle of life, Gypsy, Eternity Road and Watching and waiting. They're all among Moody's best songs ever. I just wish I could enjoy ... Read More:

I borrowed this disc from my sister to see if it was worth laying out a premium for it in the aftermarket. Buyer beware...this is a poor production. The bass is almost non-existent. The highs are overblown and the mix unto itself is bizarre. If you want to pay a premium for an audiophile version of Abraxas then treat yourself to the stereo SACD. It's really ashame as this would have been great album in 5.1 if done properly.

The quintessential sound of the late 60's and early 70's this CD is packed with great songs. Although the songs were re-mastered the CD still holds that unique sound that dates the music. The songs compiled on the disc are all songs that you will remember even though you forgot the song titles. If you are looking for that disc that holds that funky and groovy sound of the hippy generation this CD is for you.
