i am not embarrassed to say i am one of grateful dead's biggest and long time fans. all things considered, this may be their best album. it shows the group as they really were; beyond belief, and a complete mess , sometimes in the same song. the 'beyond' parts make the experience more than worth the sloppiness and there are some chill inducing beyondo highs here. you dead lovers know what i mean. this is the album i always thought [hoped] they would release, but i believe they got cold feat, and scrubbed them up best they could. but we all knew better. for instance, when the dead would start a song that was special [i know; very subjective] like st stephen, the crowd would go nuts on that first note, but on other albums, what do you know, no ... If you are considering a purchase of Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass), from March 1966, the main thing that you need to do is to make a careful comparison of the song list against the 2-disk album, Hot Rocks 1964-1971, the first disk of which covers a similar Stones period. The difference in songs? In a nutshell: It's All Over Now, Tell Me, Not Fade Away, and Good Times, Bad Times are not on Hot Rocks 1964-1971. Perhaps more importantly, though, the awesome Paint It, Black is on Hot Rocks 1964-1971 but not on Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass). By buying Hot Rocks you get more bang for your buck, because the 2nd disk of Hot Rocks has a lot more great stuff from 1966 to 1969. Also, Hot Rocks (2 disks) is only a dollar or two more than Big Hits ... Read More:

I had seen grey-haired Clapton and absolute geezers Baker and Bruce in a cut from this DVD, on VH1 (I think). It was impressive, and I'd hoped the DVD would be worthwhile. It's fantastic, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
I'm one who feels Clapton has not lived up to his potential for the past 30 years. Here, he has never been better. In an interview segment, Baker noted that he an Bruce are jazz musicians, and that they consider Clapton a jazz musician, as well. This shed light on why I've always had such a hard time considering them a rock band -- along with their leanings to blues, and some hard-to-define tracks from their albums.
The audio and video productions are first rate. Great lighting and camera angles, and the sound ... Read More:

After Sgt. Pepper many bands were obviously wanting to evolve. Were it not for that album, I'm sure Jefferson Airplane would not have given us After Bathing at Baxter's, and the Grateful Dead with Anthem of the Sun. Or Zappa with We're Only In It For the Money (which spoofed the Sgt. Pepper album cover and packaging). The Stones obviously didn't want to feel left out and come Their Satanic Majesties Request at the end of 1967. And it was their response to Sgt. Pepper, but to me, it's hardly a copy of that album. The album sported wonderful artwork, complete with that 3-D cover.
Many fans and rock critics have never been too kind to this album, because it's so far removed from their R&B roots. Psychedelia, with some art rock and space rock tendencies ... Read More:

Posthumous reconstructions of unfinished works are inherently dangerous, principally because even the most capable scholar or producer can only make, at best, an educated guess as to how the work in question would have been completed. Indeed, in dealing with some such pieces, you're sometimes lucky to get the work of the artist claimed (the Mozart Symphony No. 37 is a case in point -- it doesn't exist; the piece once labeled Symphony No. 37 and attributed to Mozart is now known to have been authored by Michael Haydn); and while there's no question that the songs on this CD were recorded by Jimi Hendrix, even the people who worked on the sides with him can't say which songs would have ended up on the finished version of First Rays of the New Rising Sun (assuming that he even ... It is a pleasure listening to the music that meant so much to my circle of friends "back in the day".
Traffic was one of those bands that played a major supporting role in the days of Vietnam, demonstrations and turmoil.
Release Date February 19, 2008
This is one of those rare EPs that is almost better than the album that inspired it. It is comprised of 4 songs that were leftovers from the "Fear of a Blank Planet" album, and after listening you wonder how they could have been left off at all.
Heavy, dark, progressive and beautifully layered with soundscapes. One of PT's best. Highly recommended.
Release Date April 25, 1995
Great singer, great selections, great recordings BUT many of the old songs are mono recordings. Wish I had read the fine print before buying...
Release Date September 03, 1996
to begin with I absolutely abhor all the so called commercial stuff they did. Meddel and Dark slight of the moon and beyond were all atrocious LPs and cds.
This one, and the zabrisky point soundtrack and atomheartmutha and oomagooma are good staff also obscurred by clothsis an okay album yes?
