I was a huge Jethro Tull fan in the 70's...Ian Anderson unlike some of the rockers in their 60's should have hung it up a number of years ago and just listened to other musicians or old tapes in his retirement.

I owe a debt to my roommate who introduced Selling England By the Pound to me in college. I was secretly, guilty into prog rock (Yes, Genesis, Renaissance) without knowing exactly why, except the soundscapes offered in that genre simply sounded "beautiful" to me. I appreciate this album not the least for the story behind it: a nostalgia for an England fast disappearing with references to the classical literature that produced England, Shakespeare, Robin Hood, Arthurian themes, set to a rich tapestry of sound. How satisfying for the lit reading college co-ed! I chalked up my love for this concept album to pure adolescence, but found myself purchasing the CD fifteen or so years later after the dorm tape had long worn out. And I am still enchanted, ... I've been listening to Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull since I was a teenager, 40 years ago. I am amazed at his skill and control of the flute from which the most magical sounds emerge. Timeless celtic music that takes you into the woods to commune.

a great recording, this is a superlative album by supertramp.there are so many great songs on here, such as dreamer, rudy, school, bloody well right, and asylum.this is definately my favorite supertramp album, and probably everyone elses also.this cd, and crisis what crisis, are essential supertramp recordings.after that they had a run of cheesy pop songs, that were total commercial sellouts, but this is supertramp at their best, and at the hieght of their powers, you can't go wrong with this cd.

How could this be DT's best album without Metropolis? It just doesn't make sense. It's even worth eliminating a couple of songs for. I know they couldn't put everything particularly epics like "A change of seasons" and "Octavarium". AS a DT fan, I can even live without "Lines in the sand" and "Blind faith" on this, but Metropolis... In my opinion, the best albums are for non-fans. The song represents what DT is about. To anybody who doesn't know DT, the very first song I'd play is Metropolis. People can get the right idea about the band from the song. I'm quite sure DT fans out there agree with me on this. (I can't believe MP missed this one) And what is "Misunderstood" doing in the disc 1?

This is a nice release from 1975 that essentially established the proggy folk rock/hard rock blend that would characterize many of their subsequent albums. Surprisingly, a near-epic is included on Minstrel in the Gallery (the four-part, 16 minute long Baker St. Muse suite). This is surprising in the sense that following the lambasting of the prog epic A Passion Play, the group turned around and released the comparatively lighter album War Child.
Musically, Minstrel in the Gallery includes a nice mixture of progressive rock, early English folk music, folk rock and hard rock. The quieter passages played on acoustic instruments nicely leaven the thunderous, proggier sections. There are some great performances by all of the players and drummer Barriemore Barlow ... Take the advice of another reviewer and get the US version, with good, clear, punchy sound - and no irrelevant extra tracks. This is the classic Traffic including Dave Mason with great songs and performances all round.

I had no idea who this band was or where they were from until not more that 4 months ago did a friend of mine have one of their songs (Farewell, which happens to be my favorite song on this album) playing on his computer and I was instantly amazed. This band has something that is not heard here in the US which is the unique blend of symphony and rock. The most amazing thing is that, while some of these tracks have lyrics, they are simply not needed because the cellos playing through the guitars and drums sing their own song. This CD is simply amazing! I learned shortly there after that Apocalyptica has made a tribute CD for some hit Mettalica songs, again without lyrics, only a quartet of cellos, and again they cellos sings the lyrics beautifully. I don't recommend this group to just ... Read More:

Back in the 70s (the real GOLDEN ERA OF POP/ROCK Music), this album was almost immediately linked with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon". The reason is simple: Alan Parsons was the recording engineer of such marvelous music work. He also worked with Paul McCartney on "Wings Wild Life" as he did with Al Stewart on "Year Of The Cat", as well as in the earliest Ambrosia albums (most of the Ambrosia musicians were also the first members of The Alan Parsons Project).
I ROBOT is full of energetic, intelligent and superbly performed Prog Rock.
Having the chance of getting a remastered version for less than twelve Bucks (plus the bonus tracks), is a good chance to re-discover how well conceived, marketed (the Hipgnosis cover works were really superb!) and performed, British Rock music used to be during ... Read More:

I enjoy the 4 tracks of relaxing scripts very much. The voice is very soothing, and the music compliments beautifully. The four tracks offer a nice variety of relaxation processes: body awareness, visualization, breathing focus, positive self-talk. The reason I gave this item 4 instead of 5 stars is because I actually find that sometimes the script is read too fast, I find myself falling behind, and, well, this stresses me out. I suppose as I continue to use this, I'll get better at it.
