A brilliant album which takes the Dixie Chicks in a slightly new direction musically, appealing not just to Country fans but across the whole spectrum.
All the fans will have a copy already but for anybody new to the band I would just say don't hesitate-this is sensational!
"Not Ready To Make Nice", especially if you know the history, must be one of the most powerful and evocative anthems of the last 30 years, up there with the likes of "Bat Out Of Hell" and "Total Eclipse Of The Heart".
This album marks the Chicks' first serious attempt at songwriting. If they can maintain the standard of "Not Ready..." it would put them on the level of the legendary Jim Steinman.
HOT TIP- buy the double album. Disc 2 is a DVD containing ... Read More:

I'm a huge Rascals/Felix Cavaliere fan but this one missed the point for me.
It has its moments (like the groove on Jamaica Delight) but overall it sounds a lot like Felix's Dreams In Motion CD which remains my least favorite of his solo stuff.
He's a killer B-3 player and didn't Cropper play in a B-3 band?
Seems like there could have been a lot more interplay and maybe some more spontaneity and just plain "fun" on this one; a bit more Love Appetite stuff, perhaps; a bit more B-3, to be sure!
Only 3 stars here for a couple of 5-star musicians!

Don't buy this for the Chicago set. Its ok, but lacks the brilliant Peter Cetera vocals. Earth, Wind, and Fire is the reason to buy and listen to this. The music and vocals are great and sound the same as they did 30 years ago. Way of the World is beautiful and they play all the favorites. One of the best music DVD's I own strictly for EW&F.

Trapt has once agian found the way to make the best music they could. every song on this album is great. From start to finish there is never a dissaponting time on the disc. Many of the songs tell the story so clear and it makes you feel like your there with them watching them write these songs. Great disk, pick this one up.

"The Perfect Boy" is another really good one. I can hear a bit of "Strange Attraction" and "Mint Car" in this one and that's cool because those were among my favorites from Wild Mood Swings. Also hear a bit of "alt.end" in there on second listen. Sorry, I've listened to them so much the last 20 years I can't help but hear things that remind me of other songs I like. The b-side "Without You" is one of their best strummy, ballad-type songs. Robert really knocks it out of the park with some great soaring vocals. If you've ever severed any ties with any person, group, or institution this one strikes a chord. I've been really impressed with Robert's vocals and wordplay on all of the singles so far (and with the rest of the band's great work of course) and can't ... Read More:

Real Animal (2008, Black Porch/Manhattan) Alejandro Escovedo's ninth studio album. ****
Alejandro Escovedo has a family tree rooted (no pun intended) in music, and while there are plenty of sons and daughters, nieces and nephews who have musical background but have no talent themselves, Escovedo isn't one of them. The album is simple, really; it's merely adult alternative pop/rock, and even though most albums in this genre are beyond mediocre and go fairly unnoticed by anyone under age thirty, Real Animal is wonderfully different. The accessibility of easy-rockers such as the opening "Always a Friend" or the slightly darker "Chelsea Hotel '78" open themselves up to people of all ages. The earnest "Sister Lost Soul" or the closer "Slow Down" reveal Escovedo's ... Read More:

We so enjoyed the Netflix DVD that we ordered 3 more from Amazon which we gave as gifts. Our friends we chose to receive this DVD were as pleased as we were. Now I proceed to order more as there are more people we would like to give a copy to.

The awakening of songwriter Duncan Sheik
by Jason W. Lloren
(Published in the San Francisco Chronicle, Feb. 9, 2007)
Duncan Sheik walks into a Starbucks in Menlo Park and instead of a coffee he grabs two bottles, a sparkling mineral water and a mixed juice. He settles down at a table and mixes the two into a plastic cup.
"I think I have the market cornered on Pellegrino and Odwalla," jokes Sheik, taking a short break from a recent theater workshop a few blocks away in Palo Alto.
It's the kind of creative alchemy that has worked successfully for the 37-year-old New York singer-songwriter.
In the past decade, Sheik, a practicing Buddhist, has released a string of pop-rock albums that combine brittle balladry ("She ... Read More:
