I have no idea why, but this record and "The Forgotten Arm" absolutely clicked for me after eight listens. It's like the entire album opened up and demanded my attention. Before that point, they sounded like a batches of similar songs.
I can't think of another artist where this is the case, but if you're finding this record to be just "OK" after a few listens, keep playing it. It's another amazing disc from one of the best songwriters around.

It amazes me how many people think that this band has had weak offerings in recent years. The Foo Fighters' previous offerings in the 2000's--2002's "One By One" and 2005's "In Your Honor" to me just further strengthened this band's amazing discography. Well, for certain, this 2007 offering continues to add to the Foo legacy, cementing this band's place as the most consistent mainstream rock band of the "post-grunge" era.
How catchy is the lead track "The Pretender"? At least one reviewer compared it to 1997's "Monkey Wrench" as an incredibly accessible single, and I would agree. Subdued verses followed by explosive choruses, a Foo trademark, make this track an absolute winner. "Let it Die" starts slow and builds, to the point that Dave Grohl ... Read More:

I have to say that if ur a hard core rocker Three Days Grace is the band for you. There second cd release "One X" is a very powerful cd filled with lots of hits. I have to say this is one of my favorite cds in my collection. Songs like Pain, Animal I've Become, and Never Too Late are very lyrical, emotional, and filled with hard core messages. If u ever felt pain, isolated, etc. u can relate to this Band. Adam and the gang know how to do their music. Yes, their debut self titled album was a success but "One X" will mark these guys into mainstream stardom. It's a must buy!! You'll enjoy.

Special editions are strictly for fans. And the first thing you have to ask yourself is what fans want. In this case, what does the Liz Phair/Exile In Guyville fan want? Well, I wanted a double cd with the original (or remastered) album on one cd and the cream of the Girliesound tapes on the second cd. And a very nice package with a 20-page booklet full of interesting stories and photos. Check the Pavement special editions to see what I mean. THAT would be a treat!
Instead, we got 3 pointless bonus-tracks at the tail of the remastered album (which sounds a little better, but is no reason enough to buy it) and a DVD with a lo-fi documentary that has some interesting stuff but also a lot of stuff that is not so interesting. And this album deserves so much more!

While stationed in Afghanistan, one of my buddies suggested this group, so I ordered their CD, and must say I was impressed. Their music and message has introduced me to a new world progressive rap/rock music. I used to like Rage Against the Machine, but they sold out their message. Their message is right on and accurate. There will be some that will disagree and consider them some liberal trash, and they are entitled to their opinions. Flobots hits nearly every song with great beats and excellent lyrics. I can't wait until their next album arrives!

When Fleetwood mac took a longshot chance on an obscure Los Angeles duo named Buckingham/Nicks, even they probably had no clue just how greatly their fortunes would turn. But the creative chemistry was almost immediate: the Fleetwood Mac album made huge inroads in the US and "Rhiannon" became the greeting card that marked the arrival of Stevie Nicks.
That is where this double CD Best Of picks up the story. For all you whiny purists who grouse that the pre-Buckingham/Nicks material is not here, this is a HITS compilation. It covers a quarter century of a band that centered on the core members (even as they revolved in and out) from 1975 on. While Bob Welch and Peter Green each contributed, they came and went quickly and the alchemy that gelled when the band entered the studio for Rumours, ... Read More:

I bought this album yesterday as an Amazon.com MP3 download, expecting the individual song files to be in the 256 kbps range, as advertised...
Amazon.com says, "we aim for an average of 256 kilobits per second [with our VBR encoding]"
...BUT the tracks I downloaded all ranged in the 150-180 kbps range, WAY below Amazon's stated target for audio quality.
I'm miffed! I've downloaded quite a few albums from Amazon.com and all the VBRs were quite close to the 256 kbps target. WHAT'S UP?
Yes, I'll complain to their Customer Service department, but I thought other James Hunter fans should be forewarned.
True, some songs with very little dynamic range will produce small VBR files, but this album has LOTS of dynamic range, so that ain't the problem! ... Read More:
