I was very skeptical - trying a CD without hearing it first. This has been my best polka CD purchase to date. It takes me back to my grandparents' (God bless them) homes a few decades ago. The music is crisp, clear and performed in the best Slovenian-style you can get. Our whole family, elementary-aged children included (!) HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this CD! There is not a song we all don't just love (though my personal favorites are 1, 2, 4, 5 and 19). ORDER it and be ready to ENJOY!

This collection of big band covers and swinging classics done in the big band style is a mixed bag. The main reason is that 7 of the songs were recorded by the studio band of George Cates and His Orchestra for an album in the 60s....considering Cates was Welk's musical director and arranger, the lines tend to blur as far as appropriate credit goes, but Hot Toddy, Caravan, Christopher Columbus, Music Makers, Organ Grinders Swing, Mr Ghost Goes To Town, and Concerto in B Flat Minor are arranged and recorded by George Cates. They have merit in the swinging alto sax and trumpet solos.
