You can always count on Frankie Yankovic for a good show. The performances here are no exception, but the quality of the recording leaves something to be desired. The sound has a muffled quality, and the stereophonic separation is almost non-existent. Better choices would be his last two CDs, Songs of the Polka King Volumes 1 and 2. Get this CD, One More Time, only if you want to complete your collection.

It is a prayer answered for those of us who wanted Joey Miskulin to step in where Frankie Yankovic left off when the latter died in 1998. It combines Joey's light, airy accordion with another instrument, the solovox, which until now had been exclusively Yankovic's among polka artists. The solovox, which sounds halfway between a mellow accordion and an electronic organ, makes its first appearance 30 seconds into the first track -- and what a welcome sound! It was the most moving experience of my life on this fair and precious planet. When my precious muffy passed on I played this album at his funeral. There were tears in all eyes K9 and human. It moved me. If you enjoy Frankie Yankavich you would enjoy "Cake", "Enya", and "Donna Summer".

If anyone needs proof how America has grown fat, listen to this album, especially the last dozen tracks. Once upon a time dancing was not merely convulsing in place. Nearly every selection here requires a limber body, and our forebears must have been up to it to be able to dance to such extraordinarily lively music. It is hard to believe it was once considered junk, mere hack work, throwaway culture. An utterly adorable tune like "At the Mississippi Cabaret" or "Hold Me" was a fad of the moment, if even of a moment, however brilliantly arranged as it was.
