Eddie and the Versatones are terrific musicians. Terrific brass that makes you want to dance. Vocals are clean and Eddie's Polish is great. It's easy to see why his band has won a grammy. Where's the rest of his albums. Eddie, get some re-releases out there.

As a native Houstonian and cousin of Brian's, I really have enjoyed this CD. He is definitely bringing back the Polish Heritage. Music sounds wonderful. Makes me want to dance!

Yes, this is a "tribute" album to Gumby (the clay boy). The songs here all relate to Gumby (sometimes in a very loose way). Actually, two of the songs here, "Concrete and Clay" and "Bend Me, Shape Me", are remakes of old hits from the '60s. But they are both well done, especially "Bend Me, Shape Me". Most of the other songs were written especially for this album. There is a Zappaesque contribution by two of Frank's kids. There are two polka-rock songs by Brave Combo. There is a reggae dub song by Sly and Robbie. Jonathan Richman contributes a typically weird song. There is a gunfighter ballad by Rick Schulman. You won't find the standard Christmas carols here, except for Silent night, accompanied by a monologue where Frankie tells us what Christmas means to him. In all the tracks he finds the Christmas spirit beautifully. The tracks are well performed and superbly recorded. I am delighted this CD has been re-released.

Some re-releases are primary (on the original labels) while others are secondary (on cut-rate labels). The sound quality on secondary re-releases, such as this one, is generally inferior to the originals. But this one, at least, is considerably superior to other secondaries which have included some of the same performances. I especially welcome four of the tracks: Blue Skirt Waltz, Dance Dance Dance, Whirl-Away Waltz, and Suzy Waltz. Frankie Yankovic has recorded Blue Skirt Waltz at least six times, and this performance is the best of the six. I wish I could locate the primary source, but this rehash will do nicely, and is greatly preferable to those on several other CDs. The re-masterings of Whirl-Away and Suzy waltzes are far better here ... Read More:

Surely everyone loves an underdog, but in the world of polka, who doesn't want superstar Jimmy Sturr to win every dang Grammy he can? He's worked with legends, he tours constantly, and his 100 or so albums have spread the gospel of modern polka better than anyone else. Next year, they should just give him a Lifetime Achievement Award.

This is Flaco at his best. When you find a CD with four (count 'em, FOUR!) instrumentals on it - buy it. I prefer Flaco's instrumentals because his accordion sings better than any singer he could recruit. Don't miss this one!
