This album was recorded in early 1969, near the peak of Richard's popularity, as the first of a projected series of spoken word albums on The Beatles experimental record label Zapple. Others in the series would have included Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Michael McClure, Charles Olson, Charles Bukowski and Allen Ginsberg. Unfortunately, Zapple crashed and burned after only two releases, "Life With The Lions" and "Electronic Sound," leaving Zapple #3 without a label.
It eventually saw limited U.S.-only release, without much publicity, on EMI Harvest in late 1970 and quickly became a high-priced collector's album. I've seen it trade hands for hundreds of dollars.
What makes this album interesting, besides being the only known recording ... Read More:

I bought this to quit smoking and listen to it about two weeks and it is a waste of money, and I would tell people don't waste your hard earned money for to buy trash. It's the worst hypnosis cd I ever listen to. SO PLEASE DON'T SPEND YOUR MONEY ON THIS OR YOUR TIME!!!!!

The reviews are mostly negative here. I just got this for my dad, and he says it's good *and* funny. He's an old-school listener though, so for newbies, the Dusty and Lefty you may have seen in Robert Altman's movie are not the Dusty and Lefty of the real radio show. If you're familiar with the radio show, and the 'Lives of Cowboys' skits, you'll more than likely enjoy this CD release. As a side note I'd highly recommend subscribing to Garrison's weekly monologue, 'The News From Lake Wobegon', if you have I-Tunes. It's a free weekly podcast, taken directly from the Saturday afternoon radio broadcasts. It's updated about mid-week, and well worth your effort if you can't catch the weekly radio show.

I also find this album extremely well done. One of my most played in my collection, as well. When Ms. Anderson hits the nail on the head, it's a direct hit! Two tracks, in particular, are my favorites. 'World Without End' and 'Tightrope' are both tracks that I play over and over. They have the ability to grab you by your soul. The album has an overall dark characteristic (maybe Ms. Anderson needs to get out of the city occasionally?), but that same darkness is what makes these two tunes, in particular, so mesmerizing. Here voice is very immediate, right in your ear, as if she is speaking quietly just to you.
I am also a big fan of Brian Eno, and his work on this album is the perfect compliment to Lauries keyboard work and lyrics. The magic is in the subtleties. ... Read More:
