I loved The Ventures' guitar style when I was a teen in the 60's (and still do), and have a nostalgic appreciation for "surf" music. I have played this continuously this season, and it has really helped lift me out of the winter blues (along with Martin Denny's stuff, which is another story). Some great arrangements! Highly recommended!

A beautiful set of acoustic slack-key and vocal numbers, including some nice falsetto work by this accomplished, richly melodic, soulful old-timer. Of the Dancing Cat artists, I think Kane is one of the best-rounded and most consistent, performing in the "smooth" ("nahenalie") style, which opts to avoid the bounce and frenzy of some of the flashier Hawaiian guitar styles. A very nice, gentle album... recommended!

He is wonderful! It is a very cool cd that I highly recommend. Jake is an amazing musician. I saw him one night on Conan and was hooked after that. I was blown away when I went to a Jimmy Buffett and saw him as part of the band.

I wasn't going to write this review since the album already had such high praise from other reviewers, until I read the editorial review. Talk about damning with faint praise. "Nothing...innovative or adventurous" indeed! That's like saying the Mona Lisa is nothing special since she's not wearing jewelry or Noguchi's sculptures aren't anything much since he doesn't have a lot of intricate designs carved into them.

As others have mentioned, the gentle loveliness of Kamakahi's music truly restores the soul. People have said it helped heal them when they were suffering physical or psychic trauma. I just find that its beauty lets me see the world as a better place.
