This 2 CD collection is exactly what I hoped for-Pavarotti at his best!
It's a nice variety of his classic repertoire and his popular music performances. It's a good way to archive the great tenor in one location, and one to listen to over and over.

I bought the CDs on Thais after hearing it in Paris in April 2007.
I think Renee Fleming is incomparable.

With the multitude of Don Giovannis out there, one might be tempted to buy this one, seeing as to the fact that it has consistently been praised. While it is perhaps the best 'classic' recording out there other than the 1936 one with Busch (which is arguably better), it has been outdone since. If you absolutely cannot stand the sound of period instruments, go with Harnoncourt. He has a fine cast, and I can't think of anyone outdoing Hampton in the title role. Norrington's version is also quite good, but Jacobs conducted a recording which could easily put all others to shame. So, if you are new to the work, it would be best to go with that version. As usual, Claudio Abbado brings to life opera (particularly Verdi): DG version of Simon Boccanegra is truly among the best achievements in opera recordings, with its central Grand Council scene shining like a crown daimond of a great composer and a great conductor.
It is, truly, a must.
